The Future of Team Snipers. And SWAT.

The Bulletin’s video on Forerunner weapons, specifically the Binary Rifle, got me thinking.

Something that’s always bothered me about gametypes such as SWAT and Team Snipers is that there are none of the nucleation points that gametypes such as Team Slayer or KoTH have. There’s no Power Weapon or Objective to pull players out of the most broken, overpowered camp spots on the maps. So we get games like SWAT on Sword Base which is just Red and Blue Team shooting each other from either side of the top-most bridge with occasional respawners decimating teams who are stuck with their tunnel vision.

This seems like a pretty bad problem that we can easily fix. Sprinkle some upgrade weapons around the map (i.e. Beam Rifle) and have a centrally located Power Weapon (i.e. Binary Rifle)

They added Hologram to Team Snipers in Reach.

The addition of weapons to fight over wouldn’t change the spirit of the gametype at all, only work to suppress the negative aspects of it.

I think the addition of other power weapons would make the camping worse though. If rockets/shotgun/sword are used, people would camp with them more. If something like a plasma rifle is used then no one would pick it up because the weapons they start with are better.

I think overshields would help more than weapons.

Another option is to allow players to call in ordinance drops like the Binary in Snipes or the Light Rifle in SWAT. I’m not sure if I would like it though because sometimes keeping things simple just works better.

I’m not saying put Rockets/Sword/Shotguns in Team Snipers.

Team Snipers on Hemorrhage. Everyone spawns with Sniper Rifles. Beam Rifles placed at all of the weapon spawns. Binary Rifle in the middle of the map.

Pass.

Shotgun starts in SWAT would be limited. Kill range on the Shotgun on unshielded targets is huge, and their effective hitbox is as well. All skill goes out the window.

A Shotgun as a reward though, that makes more sense.

Placing DMRs, Carbines, LRs around the map makes more sense.

You could say the same about BR/DMR SWAT :stuck_out_tongue:

Should test it out. There are options we can tweak, try increasing damage resistance so that the shotgun won’t kill at long range. Or maybe we should leave it as it can increase your options, like knowing whether to move in and fire once or keep your distance and fire twice.

How about in Team Snipers there’s no sprint, magnum, grenades, or melees. It would be a whole lot more fun.

Yes, let’s just ignore the fact SWAT is based on headshots and add weapons with no headshot damage.

Yeah, that’s the point! In real life SWAT teams utilize SMGs and shoties, not DMRs or BRs, because they are just too heavy and too big for breaching or hostage-rescuing ops. To see what I mean clik these pictures:

You didn’t just compare Halo to real life did you?

The whole point of SWAT is headshots, hence why the gametypes we have are, SWAT Magnums & SWAT w/ DMRs.

The description even says “No shields, no sensors. Just you, your DMR, and a lot of headshots.”

would love to see an objective swat with similar styles to the highlighted scenarios. XD
similar to submission on GoW2 maybe?

I think I just realized the first thing I like about 343Flag. SWAT CTF would play well with the Flagnum.

Are you so desperate for automatic weapons to take over in place of precision weapons that you can completely overlook the very nature of SWAT?
