The Future of Spartan Ops?

I’m really hoping someone from 343i can shed some light on the subject. I miss Spartan Ops; complain about it all you want, I enjoyed it, and I think it could be even better.

Last we heard of Spartan Ops was that 343i “had no plans at the time” for a Season 2. That was in a Halo Bulletin months ago. Since then, nothing. What I want to know is, has Spartan Ops been canceled completely and utterly for Halo 4, or can we expect something down the line before Halo 5?

There’s still lots of things 343i could do with Spartan Ops; introducing drivable Pelicans and Broadswords in some missions in one thing. I posted another thread earlier (link) suggesting open, non-linear missions like “The Silent Cartographer” in Halo:CE. There’s also stuff like the inclusion of new enemies (Brutes, anyone?), weapons (Spiker, Brute Shot, Mauler, Focus Rifle, etc.) and vehicles (Hornet, Falcon, Revenant, AA Wraith, Chopper, and Spectre).

I’m among the group that gravitates more towards the Campaign, Spartan Ops, and Firefight aspects of Halo. I’d like to see more content in that area of Halo 4.

I’d abandon hope for a Season 2 at this point. When it comes to 343i, when they say they have no plans for something or mention something then never reference it again, it’s as good as dead.

Right now, the future of Spartan Ops is quite uncertain. If 343i hasn’t made any plans for a season 2 at this point, then perhaps there wont be one after all.

Spartan ops wasnt that good anyway, the story between the cut scene and in game were horribly unconnected. The game play was essentially you battling through tons of fuel rod elites to keep pushing the same button over and over, not to mention the plot holes it had. It isnt a good successor to Firefight at all, the story sucks for multiple reason given and at-least Firefight had gameplay replayability.

My guess that they probably are not going to do season 2. With a new Halo coming out next year, I doubt the teams that work on storyline and campaign missions would have the time to do a good job for it.

Spartan Ops has a lot of potential. 343i did a good job on episodes 6-10, and there were even a few in 1-5 that I enjoyed as well (Land Grab, The Didact’s Gift, Spartan Miller, just to name a few).

I also want to see more diverse locations in Spartan Ops. The last season took place entirely on Requiem; save for that one chapter on the UNSC Infinity. I’d like to go to Installation 03, or maybe some of the colonies seen in the Crimson, Majestic, and Castle map packs. Maybe some of the Covenant-held worlds like those seen on Damnation, Snowbound, and Assembly.

I don’t think Spartan Ops was as good as firefight, and the in-game story and dialogue was very lacking, but the gameplay and the between-episode videos were pretty good. I’d love for a Season 2.

I’d love for them to use more multiplayer maps, too. I enjoyed playing missions on Ragnarok.

Spartan Ops was my favourite feature from Halo 4, so of course I want more. I love how they were able to tell a story that wasn’t about the Master Chief, and get to know some characters who weren’t all just killed off throughout the story for fun (Yes, I’m looking at you, Halo: Reach).

I want a Spartan ops season 2.

When I talk about halo on the old republic, many times people ask if there is going to be a season 2.

The movies in between the missions is the only thing i liked about Spartan ops other than that it was same old thing push this button kill loads of enemy’s push this button and plus palmer would never shut the F up i swear she is the most annoying character i have ever seen in a video game and i whole heartily hope she takes an elites energy sword through the chest in halo 5 (if she’s in there fingers crossed she’s not).

It did have potential though i admit that but i think the majority lost interest in it and they know that hence the reason why they aren’t working on season 2 at the moment.

i’d like a firefight mode added, even if It has to be DLC

If its in halo 4, then yeah i’d buy it…

Spartan ops was really just a worse version of the campaign, and 343 probably feels the same way, otherwise they woulda announced another season…

MORE SPARTAN OPS PLEASE.

It was a good story even with Requiems demise which was not last minute as some think because The Librarian mentioned it’s time was at end to Chief in campaign and it was always going to crash and burn.

The worst thing about Spartan Ops is they have left it too long to deliver season 2 for me. I wanted it straight away. Still hope we get it as late is better than never,

Loved the weekly episodic content. That’s how games will be delivered in the new gen consoles like it or lump it. Quantum Break and D4 are 2 titles that will be delivered like this.

So I was over at a friend’s house and he asks if there is going to be a season 2.

I told him some people don’t like it: button pressing, fuel rods, repetitive. He laughs it off and says arcade was repetitive

I highly doubt that we’ll see anything else for Spartan Ops. They concluded that story arc, I’m betting season two will simply be a part of Halo 5.

Given that we’ve got a long time before fall of 2014, and how 343i tends to spontaneously burp out a ton of new announcements right before our eyes, I have a little sliver of hope left for Spartan Ops S2.

Frankie did say that the stories of Fireteams Majestic and Crimson are far from over, so that may mean that Season 2 is on the horizon, but that could also be hinting at what the upcoming TV series may be about.

Either way, I’d be more than thankful for a SpOps Season II, but I care much more about issues like Custom Games and Forge.

If they didn’t preview anything at RTX or any other convention by now I doubt they will have anything…sucks cause I did enjoy it every once in awhile …but I doubt it will ever surface…

I think Meltdown and Shatter could both work in Spartan Ops, personally.

I also think they should try using more multiplayer elements in Spartans; like, you know how they used those turrets from Dominion in episode 1-5? They could also use those teleportation beacons from Extraction, the data cores from Halo:Reach’s Invasion mode, or the bomb from Assault. Might make objectives a bit more interesting than just “blow this up”, or “push that button”.

First thing to get off my chestplate, I don’t get why people gripe about the “FRG Elites” and how they’re everywhere, and then say that Firefight was any different; it was almost the exact same :S

As for SO in general, I actually kinda liked it. It was a new try at something other than the ripoff survivor mode that Firefight and countless others were playing at, and even trying to make it fit within canon had a nice touch (although not hard, it seems that any remotely empty point not currently taken up by something else can have a story pulled and made Word of God without incident or need for retcons.

There are other things to debunk for people that like to cause trouble by complaining, but I’ve already digressed so far that I’m not even on the same continent as this topic…

Where was I?..oh yeah.

343i has quite a bit of time to think about and churn out a Season 2, assuming Halo 5 won’t be a release title for the XBone (God forbid if it is, then they’ll have turned into CoD’s release schedule), so I don’t see why not.

The only real problem is that not even two months after Halo 4’s release, the online playerbase dropped like a dubstep chorus and went to CoD and other games. That considered, 343i’s more thinking “if we make this, are we wasting our time?”

Firefight wasn’t billed as a second campaign, however. Spartan Ops was.
