The Future of Reach's matchmaking [Truce]

By now you’ve probably experienced what the TU update has to offer. Along side its ridiculous 50,000 Cr for playing the Team Slayer playlist. [Reason why it was recently highly populated]

Set aside, we can all acknowledge the fact that the TU update will overcome our handful of Vanilla players.

To this, I propose a solution this this raw ordeal.

Make anything you want fully TU, for this time being.
For us Vanilla lovers, a single playlist of Vanilla.
But when Halo 4 is released, Launch Week, revert everything back to Vanilla and leave only a single TU playlist.

This shouldn’t cause any confusion and/or flame any TU lover since they can buy Halo 4 like the rest of the Halo Community and play.

-Your thoughts/criticism are welcome-

Changing to change again most likely wont happen =/. While not a huge of the TU, what I dont like even more is a multitude of settings within the same game.

My gun and AA should work the same no matter where I play in Reach, one way to avoid that problem is to not change a year old game that is working well enough.

At this point I dont know what 343 is going to do, but they seem desirous to please as many as possible, guess we will have to wait and see 0.0

I don’t understand this argument. The difference between vanilla and TU Reach is negligible.

The problem lies with the AA’s and poorly balanced maps.

Not an arguement, but a solution to the arguement of TU vs Vanilla.

> The problem lies with the AA’s and poorly balanced maps.

,this isn’t the case, people hate using their head more often to strategically outdo their opponent.

> this isn’t the case, people hate using their head more often to strategically outdo their opponent.

It’s so hard to take you guys serious when you say -Yoink- like this. The exact same goals exist with in all Halo’s, AA’s just make them far easier to achieve.

I don’t feel like going into it for the 10th time so I’m just going to link you to a post a made earlier about it: slinky

I’ve made more detailed posts on the matter, but I’m not going to go searching for them as you’re most likely not going to understand regardless of how much information I throw at you.

OT: I said this a few months ago. It won’t happen, but I just want to say I support it.

Except they cant change the way invasion or firefight to TU. Not to mention campaign. And god help you if you want to try MLG. So if you play those things as many do, youre still getting a disconcerting bump in the game settings which put you off. Either way you cut it, Reach has been cleft straight down the middle gameplay wise and theres no getting around that.

I don’t believe TU is going to win. I have been playing a lot and seen TU voted out the majority of time. I could be wrong who knows but I do agree with you on one thing. 343 should be finding a way to try and please both fans. The game was set one way for over a year and now they have changed it. Unfair to all of us who loved the game exactly the way it was and weren’t in the forums trying to change anything. Not that I have anything against that either. I understand the TU argument and they also have a point. The game play is drastically different and many people including myself refuse to play the one the don’t want. Hagbar says "vote vanilla, bring The Mighty Sword Duel back!!!

I think they need to have consistent gameplay across the playlists. Revert everything back to default Reach settings. Specifically if they refuse to take the broke bleedthrough out of TU I want default Reach back how Bungie made it. I paid for the last bungie halo game, not a messy amalgamation of 343i’s poorly implemented changes.

Criticism: TOO MANY COLOURS!!!

“Set aside, we can all acknowledge the fact that the TU update will overcome our handful of Vanilla players” - There are more than just a few Vanilla players, just because there are only a handful on the forums. For every pro-TU on the forums there are ten more in game, for every anti-TU on the forums there are about 1000 in the game, the only real difference is pro-TU players are kind of players that complain to get there way, like a 5 year old in a supermarket. Whereas us anti-TU players will try to play the game the way it was meant to be played (vanilla), and when our game gets taken from us, we just quit and say “-Yoink- it, we’ll go play something else, let reach’s matchmaking suffer without our numbers”.
“But when Halo 4 is released, Launch Week, revert everything back to Vanilla and leave only a single TU playlist.” - I’d be happy with that, I considered posting that idea but as usual 343’s “hard work” meant the servers were down AGAIN.

i never asked for it i assure you but i like TU better than what was there. It plays a lot better. if you want blanket statments like what you just made, then all players that want vanilla are just players that want the old glitches back so they can cheat the game as usual

There’s never too many colors.

Unless your left to use yellow, by then it looks like a rainbow.

TU obviously needs some tweaks to be more competitive, but having TU is better than the Vanilla settings. 85% bloom on the DMR is much better though I prefer ZB, the NR is much more viable, AL nerf, etc. Most important was bleed-through, being able to shoot an oncoming opponent and finish with a melee instead of having to fully commit to shooting.

I highly doubt rolling back the TU after Halo 4 launches will happen. Halo 2 and Halo 3 Title Updates remained after their successors were launched, and 343 is being quite generous in applying the TU slowly rather than immediately.

I think the Beta playlist should test out improved base player traits with the TU, getting feedback on that. While MLG already has great settings, it is virtually suicide to go in there without a team, not to mention high individual skill. Testing out 75% melee, 110% resistance, 110% movement speed, etc., and I’m sure the problems with the TU will be mitigated. That personally should be enough to phase out Vanilla Reach completely.

Of course, if people want their Vanilla fix, keeping a small vanilla hopper would suffice, so long as other playlists are consolidated. I didn’t mention Invasion, since that is exclusive to Reach.

Well, if you think about it…this is like a bandage.

Would you rather suffer over a great period of time and slowly peel it off, or would you rather just have a one go and suffer the pain for a few seconds?

It depends on how you look at it, whether you supported the TU or not.

For me, the TU’s slow application was like watching a television show episode and the preview for next week’s episode (24 ringing any bells?). In short, I wanted more. When the beta playlist first launched, I would always vote for ZB. The ZB weighting went up, and I kept playing. Even before the TU went live, when it was limited to customs, I would try to recruit people to play the ZB gametype, and the few games I did get were fun. Kampy’s ZB montage made it even more enjoyable.

When Squad got the TU, I would play that as my primary playlist and pretty much nothing else. I wished for my other favorite playlists to get the TU (Doubles, Arena, Rumble Pit) and sure enough they got it in due time. I’ve been waiting for the TU to hit Rumble Pit, and it did in the previous update. I played Rumble Pit after that and I was enjoying the game again.

Looking back on it, 343 did a good job in giving players ample time to experience the TU changes and ensure people had the time to give feedback. They could have simply applied the TU to Team Slayer, but they gave players the opportunity to vote. While the voting scheme wasn’t perfect, it’s better than no vote at all.

Well, in good standing, I like the zero bloom [85% in this case].
Anything else is just people’s complaints not feedback.

But in reality, your pretty much altering a game that isn’t suppose to be played in such manner.

I’m sure 343 just wanted to make their Precious community happy for the time being while they make Halo 4, Yet ended up just flaming everyone.

I’m sure their intention was to care for the community, but i suggest they should alter the game if they , in a professional way, thought that the settings were needed to be changed.

Just because a kid wants a candy doesn’t mean you should buy him that candy.

consistency.

TU forever, one PreTU playlist.
