It’s better than Kinect.
Imagine this and Google Glass used in unison. The future is here, gentlemen, and I couldn’t be happier.

Looks pretty amazing, I’m wondering if they’ll replace controller with this as a peripheral on their next generation console. Then again, every time a group has tried to do this, it’s just ended up being a gimmick, paling in comparison to the games on the system.
Still, would be good to see some creative uses for this in creative games (think Minecraft, Portal and the like).

I don’t really see a wide variety of gaming applications for it. Like all interfaces not utilizing a controller, this, too, falls when character movement is required. Basically, that’s only the movement for a single hand. With any game where you need to moev around, you still need to hold the controller in your hands, and suddenly the magical device becomes much less magical.
It kind of reminds me of the Leap that got a lot of publicity some time ago. Both try to approach the concept of Kinect in two different ways. Both accomplish their goal, seemingly even better than Kinect. But both also only concentrate on tracking of hands, whereas Kinect tracks the whole body.
Ultimately, I wouldn’t see this as a replacement for Kinect on the next generation consoles, not even an addition. It’s a nice gadget, sure, but it’s not really practical for gaming use due to limited uses. As for other uses, it does what Kinect does, possibly with more accuracy for hands but with the loss of full-body tracking. I could see it being a viable solution for controlling your TV with your hands, but then again, there are many other camera technologies that don’t require anything attached on your hands and are even more accurate. In other words, it’s a nice gadget, sure, but doesn’t serve a purpose as it’s inferior to other similar technology.
