i’d really love if they’d have the same ai features as like in halo 2, 3 and 4. it made the gaming experience so much more epic. when i played halo 5 it really disappointed me that eventualy you’d only had yourre dum fireteam. the rest of the friendly ai just felt as screen and story filling. i liked the ai in ce MUCH better then the ones in halo 5, even if they were less smart and couldn’t even drive when you went on the gunners seat of the warthog. if they’d made the ai for halo infinite as in halo 2 and 3 like when fighting the scarabs, or the bridge level. or like the level where the pillar of autumn drops multiple freaking tanks! big -Yoink- epic vehicle warfare, it would rock my world! the whole fireteam principle was a cool idea, but… for me it didn’t work.
I can see the old way being a thing in Infinite. Of course, I’m going solely off the demo and how “Chief-centric” is used so frequently these days.
If they choose to go with a Spartan squad again though, I hope their AI is not as dumb as it is in Halo 5. AI companions are only useful as a distraction in H5. Much like what you said, I loved how the old games kept the AI “dumb” enough to not be more skilled than the player, yet useful enough to be helpful sidekicks in battle.

Blue Team is always pretty helpful for me. I don’t know how many times I’ve thanked Linda for hauling a** across the battlefield while getting shot up just to pick my butt up off the ground lol. But I can count how many times my friends have claimed their hatred for her because she always ignores them in favor of me. Fred’s saved my rear on a number of occasions as well, and Kelly is…well, Kelly. She’s really good at getting stuck so I don’t have to xD

I don’t think “return to player’s location” makes them good AI though. Helpful sure, but I think that’s a symptom of the “down but not out” mechanic.
I hope Halo Infinite returns to when you die, you die. Just like from previous games. I think it will. And as it’s Chief-centric, I expect we’ll be alone on occasion. So no one will be there to pick us up.

Well, good AI is subjective; it can mean anything to anyone. Some might consider an AI that focuses a HPT ‘good AI’ because it focused on the objective. Others might think good AI is any AI that helps you the player progress, like when you go down and the AI comes over to pick you up.
I feel like some people wish AI were so good it was as if they were playing with REAL people. And while that CAN in theory be done, it all comes down to what the AI can register down its massively branching path of can and can nots. To make a perfect AI is impossible, there will always be something an AI does you do not like and most of the time, they do a lot of things we don’t like. From being in our way, to chucking nades that land near us, to running us over with vehicles; the list goes on. I don’t blame dev’s who simply make AI units as basic level of helpful as possible just to liven up the battlefield so you don’t feel alone. I do not know the intricacies of AI creation, we never got to that part in my game creation class I took years ago; we made a dummy game of brick break and made a model of a squirrel looking thing and a small animation of said squirrel thing going into a house. That’s it. I couldn’t tell you if it was easy or hard to do.

the ai doesn’t have to be super smart. it was really crazy and crazy fun to just sit on the gunners seat of the wartog when the ai drived, sometimes super smart and sometimes as stupid as … the ai from halo 2 is allready smart enough for me. just like that style to return.
When talking about this subject, are we talking about friendly AI only? Or enemy AI as well?
Because I could speak volumes praising the original trilogy’s AI.
I actually didnt find the AI different in how they were implemented from the original trilogy minus the addition of the squad mechanic which was a welcome addition for me personally. Ever since reading first strike its always baffled me how blue team had never been with chief in the games after halo ce, plus it only makes sense for a soldier to be with their squad. More in line with the topic though I found the AI is just as lively with interesting interactions and personalities as they’ve alway been and just as useless in combat(minus the squad that you can somewhat control).

I always found that rather odd as well. I mean, it’s not unheard of for a Spartan-II to break off from their squad to do some solo Ops, especially if they’re asked for personally. And while Halo: Combat Evolved might have made sense seeing as Linda-058 was wounded and Fred-104 and Kelly-087 were elsewhere, it made little sense that they weren’t brought together in Halo 2 or sent to Earth to help with the defense in Halo 3…why they weren’t on the Infinity in Halo 4 is whatever; I mean, Spartan-IV’s were only deployed to the Infinity as extra muscle. They didn’t really need a legendary team to cover that; in fact, Spartan Fire teams weren’t even considered really necessary aboard the Infinity until after the Didact attacked Earth.

yhea the enemy ai also, everything was much more alive back then i think haha. but you know, i’d like to see a oldscool flood vs the newscool prometheans ai battle.
