The free Deming shoulder armor in season 2 is a minor retool of the Hampus shoulder armor from the shop

I paid for the hampus as part of a bundle with a sandrift gulley armor coating. 343 should give me a partial refund. They should also permanently remove the item from the shop.

That’s not happening.

You paid for something in this game?

Lol… bought something from the shop. The only thing you deserve is a dunce cap

Oh so I’m a dunce for making a cosmetic purchase. By that logic, so is everyone who’s bought a battle pass. After all, the battle pass is, essentially, a cosmetic super bundle that is gradually unlocked through gameplay- the value is subjective. 343 recycling a monetized cosmetic is still wrong.

Brace of Blades is basically Kunai of the Hidden Hand 2.0
Every coating is a retool of another coating
There are multiple Mark VII helmets that are Mark V/VI retools

You think 343 can or even would want to pull off 10 years of entirely unique original new content? Nah. It’s all getting rehashed and resold. Think about it.

Chonmage is Zvezda, but Zvezda is Eva
Yokai is Lotus
Firefall is like Mark V [B] ODST

Deming is just Hampus but thiccccer
This just happens to be the laziest example since coatings

Expect more similar rip-offs to come in the future, alongside all 247 blue coatings

The armor accessories you’re referring to are different assets built from the ground up but designed to look superficially similar. At worst, that design and monetization approach is lazy but technically ethical-but giving away a slightly modified version of a previously monetized asset strips the original asset of its value.

The fact you think that is even possible is hilarious

Most live service games will put old battle pass items in future shops, and put old shop items in later battle passes.

In a live service game you should be ready for anything you buy today to available for free in some future season. You’re usually paying to wear something “first”

That might be excusable if we were 4 or 5 seasons into the games life cycle and 343 was some cash strapped indie developer

It’s pretty industry standard for this to happen in immediate next seasons.

Can you be mad at 343 about it? Sure. Just know you’d be going through the exact same “I bought this a month ago and a free version will be available in a month??” feeling no matter what live service game you’re playing.

You made a bad purchase from a greedy company and have regret. Live with it. Either have standards for yourself or be disappointed

Nobody thinks that. Not even 343 themselves.

Yes you did, hopefully you’re wearing the shoulder plates you spent money on instead of shelving them.

Do you have any visual comparisons at least?

I’ve had the ODST helmet unlocked in Halo 3 since 2008, 343 should give me a refund for the points I spent on the ODST variants in MCC.

I had a plain white phase 2 clone trooper action figure in 2005, Hasbro should give me a refund for the blue phase 2 clone trooper action figure I bought in 2006.

I bought a Red GTX 960, a month later the green version came out $40 cheaper, MSI should give me a refund because I wanted the cheaper green one in hindsight.

They did charge for the color red several different times (with just a “minor retool”) so I’m not sure why you are surprised.

I’ve bought items from the shop. Selectively, but I have. So I’m not going to call anyone a fool for having made a purchase, there.

However, there is an implicit risk accepted when you buy a bundle from the store as it exists today. We know that 343i is working on a dramatic overhaul of the game’s monetization elements, so chances are that by purchasing items in the shop now, we’re assuming the risk that the items we buy may become available for less money or through other means for other players later on. We’ve already seen this with the price slashes that have occurred for certain bundles throughout season one. The shop is essentially in “Beta”.

So, you have to look at it as a “what you see is what you get” or “as-is” value proposition. If you thought something there was worth purchasing for the price you paid for it, when you paid for it? That’s all there is to it. They’re not going to be issuing refunds over buyer’s remorse. Anyone else would’ve had to pay the same amount to get the same item at the time you bought it.

I do think the store is dramatically overpriced in general and I have a lot of issues with the monetization in Infinite, but I take all of that into account when I determine whether to make a purchase. By voluntarily paying for an item, you’re implicitly consenting that you think the price is worthwhile.

Going forward, you’ll just have to take into account that 343 is going to repeatedly recycle assets and likely make them (or minimally altered “different” assets- see, the color red) available for less in the future to other players. I’m not defending that, I’m just saying that it’s gonna happen whether any of us like it or not.
