343 hasn’t actively participated here, and the communication has dwindled down to pretty much nothing in terms of productivity.

It was an absolute pleasure being involved here and look forward to the future of Halo MCC!

Personally I found the feedback that developed here much more logical to parse than other platforms like Reddit. The forums were meant to be a place for players to communicate with each other, not necessarily a place for 343 to communicate with us.

The era of an official forum is over. After a few thousand posts I suppose this is it.

Can’t say I agree, but I can’t say I disagree either.

Before the revamp, and for a short time after, feedback was taken into consideration. But just as people have left the series in droves, so too has 343’s current staff.

My guess is after the layoffs they don’t have the manpower to keep the forums going.

Shutting down the forums here is absolutely the wrong idea. It really goes to show 343 doesn’t care about the community at all. Even though 343 doesn’t participate in what is supposed to the official place to discuss Halo doesn’t mean they should shut it down. There is absolutely no reason to shut it down, even if users have fallen off. What they should do is perhaps put it back they way it was since most fell off after all the changes. But use casual players don’t matter at all to 343 clearly. I just don’t get why does 343 seemingly make everything worse and then just dump it… Replace firefight with “spartan ops” and then when it didn’t catch on, dumped… Replaced the awesome Waypoint App on Xbox 360 with the Halo channel on Xbox one… Didn’t catch on… Dumped… Changed the way the forums worked… Didn’t catch on so dumped… SMH
… Halo just circling the drain about to go down…

While I agree with your points, Im not sure why we would continue discussions into the wind where 343 isnt reading or responding.

343 cares more about Twitter / Reddit / Discord. At least they are saying it out loud.

Just the fact that there are Halo players here using it should be reason enough to keep it. Shutting the door on us and saying go some where else isn’t cool all. If we wanted to use those other sites we would. It’s sad they shutting it down when it does nothing but drive more players away. With Halo’s dwindling population you would think they would be doing all they can to support communities no matter how small they are.

Again, I dont disagree. Maybe a more apt title would have been “considering 343’s negligence, the forum shutdown is the right decision”.

I guess I’ll call out here one last time the things I want back/fixed in the MCC.

HALO REACH:

  • Slayer Pro in matchmaking!
  • 4v4 Elite Slayer in matchmaking!
  • Add the nine missing Forge World maps to the matchmaking pool! (Affinity, Chateau, Eden Minor, Enclosed, Midas, Precipice, Pulse, Renova and Treasury!)
  • Commendations!
  • Fix the Perfection medal bug, where the announcer does not shout it out at the end of a Slayer game when you achieve one!
  • Add a toggle for the bloom for those who struggle to play with it how it currently is, such as my buddy, who has trouble seeing on a lot of the maps because it’s so bright!
  • Anything else from OG that is missing and that I have forgotten about!

Do it 343.

It’s probably people like you why they are shutting down. Think they wanna come on to the forums and read a bunch of hate towards them, why would they.

Perhaps they should listen to the community and to strictly to “pros”… Perhaps they should admit mistakes and then actually fix them instead of just shut it down… The forums where doing great until they decided to change everything and then people started leaving… How about just change it back? How about actually post Halo stuff here first since it is supposed to be the official place for Halo, to entice more users to come here more often? But no… Just throw in the towel and alienate more of the Halo community who have been loyal to " the official place for Halo"…

I’m sad it’s closing down, 343 used to be active here until too many people were being too aggressive rather than giving feedback in a more positive way. The fact that there was real threats doesn’t surprise me that some parts of the forum became toxic. When there is a problem it didn’t hurt to bring up a subject in a more positive way rather than just “oh, the game is dead”. and making threats towards people who have worked hard to bring us Infinite. I don’t like Discord much as seems like a mess of messages rather than played out like the forum has been. End of an era, I’ll miss the forum

The only way I’d agree that shutting down these forums is right, is if they were replacing it with the old ones. It’s nice to have a dedicated place to talk about Halo that leans more toward civility than many other platforms, despite all the toxicity. I’m really going to miss having waypoint.

If this was 343’s point of view then it shows another level of incompetence.
Forums aren’t new. Negativity in forums is normal/expected. Increase your moderation and move on.
What you shouldnt do is abandon the forum, then when it goes downhill, point to it and say “look its really low quality now we should nuke it”.

Same. Discord is a different world.

Sucks that it’s closing down, waypoint was my only avenue interacting with the halo community. Discord server is -Yoink!- and I’m not a huge fan of Reddit but we’ll see.
