The Forever War

Written by Joe Haldeman. The book is crazy…but I can’t help but recognize how many of the concepts show up in the Halo universe. And I think it was written in the seventies. The ideas in Halo fiction has come from works written long ago. Just thought it was interesting to piece some of it together.

A lot of Halo is taken from classic science fiction, especially Halo CE-3. The Halos exist in a book called Ringworld by Larry Niven, and Johnson is a very obvious homage to Sgt. Apone from Aliens. On top of that, the Elites were obviously inspired by both Alien and Predator, and there’s much more.

The Flood are partly inspired by the Vang

The Pelican was inspired by the Cheyenne Dropship from Aliens in the Original Trilogy and from the Mil-24helicopter in the Reclaimer triology.

We forgetting Starship Troopers? (Heinlen’s book, not the eehhhh-worthy '90s action film). ODSTs, need I say more. Not to mention powered armor…
Heck, there’s even a Sergeant Johnson in it.

Yeah, a lot of inspiration from the older sci-fi movies for sure.

I do believe Star Wars had something to do with it too.

Now I want a shield world to be seen and someone will say “That’s no moon, it’s a space station”
