The Flood, your friend? = New Weapons, Vehicles, Tactics... and even a nice Flood-Girl? 8D

I make it short: You still remember the Flood was allied with you in Halo 3? Good. It was an epic feeling, right? In my oppinion it was.
So I want in Halo 4 (or the sequels) some parts where you are allied with the flood again. I also don´t want to see them “only” as evil enemys. I personaly like the Flood. I think even they should add a Hot Flood-Girl for the Master-Chief (the opponent to Cortana). :stuck_out_tongue: But nvm… (… I hate Cortana, she is evil! I want a nice Flood Girl. :D)

So…

You want the Flood as Enemy? As Ally? Both?
And: How you want that the story ends for the Flood? Peace? Flood gets totaly destroyed? Or even: Flood rescues us? And we are all friends? Floods pulls back, and we are all happy, after all?

[“I will sleep this night very good, because my worst enemy is watching after me!” (~from: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (Movie/1966)]

What you think? Is the Flood only the evil enemy? Or is it more? Can there be an alliance with the Flood VS the “Evil new Sh*t”? :stuck_out_tongue:
And you want a pretty, nice Flood Girl, too? (So you don´t have to see only annoying Cortana… … The Daughter of Keyes was not an alternative… she was evil, too… and she is dead. And: No I don´t want her to come back somehow :p)

(I also see a lot of new vehicles, weapons and tactics, if you are a friend/or even a part of the flood.)

Sadly the Flood have a hunger that can never be stilled…

I will just be happy when they make a return, I do not really care if they are an ally or an Enemy but I do think they are better fit to be an Enemy than an ally because… well… They are the ‘Halo-equivalent’ for Zombies and have almost never Humans worked with zombies in any past movie, game, book,…

>Nice flood girl
No

Also The Flood can’t be our ally, Gravemind the thing that controls them believes he and his minions are the next step in evolution. It’s as if someone took fundamentalist Islam, gave it steroids, and turned the followers into a parasitic virus.

> It’s as if someone took fundamentalist Islam, gave it steroids.

Don’t mean to turn this into a religious thing but as far as I can see fundamentalist islam shares no similiar qualities with the flood. However I have found links and similarities between fundamentalist islam and the covenant and was going to make a thread about it but I don’t want to come across as racist and i’m pretty sure discussing religion is banned in the forums.

The reason allying with the Flood was so “epic” is because it is not diminished in any way by the narrative. It made perfect sense in that short period of time. I would not want to see the Flood as allies for poor reasons like “the players wanted it, so we’ll just let it happen sometimes.”

If there is a situation that the Flood and the Master Chief must ally to combat, then they should do so. But I don’t ever expect it to be a long, drawn-out alliance. And I don’t expect it to be all that frequent – in how many other situations could the Flood possibly have need of the Master Chief alive and unspoiled?

Also… “Flood girl?” What? That would contradict so much that we know about the Flood.

> Don’t mean to turn this into a religious thing but as far as I can see fundamentalist islam shares no similiar qualities with the flood. However I have found links and similarities between fundamentalist islam and the covenant

The position of Arbiter was originally going to be named Devrish, the similarities are there on purpose. Also I also similarities of Fundamentalist Islam in The Flood due to the fact that The Gravemind believes he is doing no wrong and that his way is that of peace, if you don’t abide by that you are against peace and thus shall be assimilated by force or disposed of.

We’re not really discussing religion, and it’s not racist to see obvious parallels, specially when religion doesn’t have much to do with race.

The “Flood-Girl” thing was mostly fun. But the more I think about it, (:D)… flood could have some accredit, or its some kind of “daughter of the gravemind” (a second mind not linked with the gravemind/and: not an antagonist/without the consume-hunger maybe). And: The only way to get peace between the Flood and the rest… even without using Halos--Yoink!--Blast.

But nvm, lol. :stuck_out_tongue:

I was more on:
Usable Flood-Weapons, Flood-Vehicles.
The Flood don´t need to be your ally to put some Flood-Weapons or even Vehicles in. What you think?

The Flood don’t have vehicles in the sense we humans do broski, and their weapons are pretty much improvised and made out of their host’s biomass. Not going to happen, being able to play as a flood form in infection type games would be pretty badass though.

The flood, the whole flood, and nothing but the flood
The flood are an ancient evil that hold to themselves one goal: Live The flood feed on the biomass of sentient beings that are large enough to sustain them. Then, over the course of time, whilst the prey is still concious, mutate them into a pure flood form, which can produce more flood or combine together the minds of the infected into a larger smarter flood form, using all the knowledge of its carrier. At this point the infected has perished, but he/she spends weeks in agony without control of themselves at all. Another note: Flood don’t pertain to any gender. There is no male or female flood spores, as they reproduce the same way as a virus, using their dominions as holder of new spores. I’d like to point out that gravemind was the largest flood form on Installation 05, but flood forms can become far larger, more intelligent and forrmidable then Gravemind. The flood don’t make alliances, they feed on everything that can sustain them. The only reason you ever fought with them as an ally in Halo 3 is because both of you had a comman goal, stop Truth from lighting the rings. As soon as Truth was killed, they imediately turned against you, hungry for more biomass. If the UNSC had the resources and I was the one in command, I’d order a MAC blast for each and every flood spore, to stop this incredible evil. What you say is simply Heresy, Treachery, you wish for the annilation of the entire Human race. Before I leave you thinking, I will say one last thing to you so you get the whole bloody, dirty picture:

A spore launches from the gray floor and grasps you in the center of your chest. You pull and pull, trying to free yourself, but it is helpless. It slowly bores through your flesh, ripping and tearing, until it worms it’s way through to your spinal chord. It latches on and supresses your thoughts, steals all the secrets your brain once held, and taking control of the one thing you should never be deprived of: You. You scream and roll around in helplessness, trying to fight off the inevitable. You are pushed to the side and watch in agony as your body is stolen. Then from somewhere outside your body you hear a muffled voice, the one belonging to your best friend, the one that has been with you since you were young, and there for you when she turned you down, when you made your first kill, and now he speaks, “I’m doing you a favor.” He points 8 gauge buck shot at your head. You try to scream out in one last futile effort to regain consience and tell him, “I’m here, I’m okay, you don’t have to do that, I can control it.” Soon you look down on a twisted and mutated form missing a head, lying next to it is a single cartridge, and your friend walks away without thinking about it.

Are the flood really so great?

Epic feeling my -Yoink-. The tank forms got owned so fast on Heroic and Legendary and even on the easy difficulties they did a sloppy job. They should have changed form rather than walking through everything like a tank. Would have been fun to see them transform into Stalker forms, leap onto the wall, transform into ranged forms, spam some shots, transform into stalker, jump into the Grunts and wreak havoc, change into tank form to take care of Jackals, and either jump on the wall and shoot at the Brute or stay as Tank Forms.

Basically, pure forms are uninteresting allies. It would have been epic if we had Separatist Hunters. Or Flood combat forms with brains (half Flood). Or rocket launcher human combat forms. That would have made my day.

Your post is proof that the flood were not done properly, not that they are a boring opponent

… -Yoink!-! If it´s a nice girl that rapes you that way. =D
Well: Exept the “friend” that kills you is kinda annoying. Cuz he avert that you get to her. :stuck_out_tongue:

Seems the Flood-Girl-Thing seems now more intressting than Flood-Weapons n Flood-Vehicles… lol :stuck_out_tongue:

Wait so people are conscious while they are being controlled by the flood? They can see and hear everything but can’t control their bodys? I thought they just died, like zombies in films.

It’s heavily implied in the Mona Lisa short story and in Halo The Flood, which despite it screwing up heavily on the Chief’s dialogue and personality excelled in a lot of other different areas.

NO! to Flood girl.
No, to Flood allies.
Yes, to Flood enemies.
YES! to total destruction of the Flood.
I want a Gravemind boss battle.

… well we could 've both. May be there is a way to split the forces of the flood; then there could be the gravemind -Yoink- end-boss, too.

Btw: I like the idea of an Endboss-Gravemind. But most endbosses are pathetic or they just suck. Will be a hard work for 343 if they make an endboss. But if it is well make, it could be epic.

The second thing is: Flood can always recreate the Gravemind. So we need some kind of special-situation in the storyline to say: this Gravemind is the Endboss.
I think I don´t need to repeat my idea. =P

“The Good, The Bad and The Ugly!”

You enter the strange infested structure. You have to find out what is up with it; what they tried to tell you about this. You enter a dark, empty room. But it was not empty, as you thought first. A flood spore sits in front of you on the dark floor. You realized: it looked kinda different from the other spores (not so ugly). But after a half second it jumps on you. You tried to shot, but you missed.

It grabs your chest. You feel safe, your shields are up. But suddenly your shield fail, from one second to an other. You hear the “shield down alert” and you feel horrorfied that the spore breaks your armor.
You trie to pull it away again, then you try to kill it. But all your Spartan-Power fails this time.

Then you feel it under your skin; moving… you feel the burning pain, like it eats your flesh. You try to speak to Cortana… try to say something. But you can´t. You feel that your shotgun drops on the floor and you fall on your knees. You hear Cortanas voice in your head… becoming weaker: “JOHN, John… oh no… j…o… … h… … …”.

Then you lose control over your mutating body and you land on the grey floor. And you start to hear a voice… but… it was not the evil, shouting voice of the gravemind, that you know (from Halo 3). It was a silent, friendly, nearly lovely voice. “I´am not gona hurt you. I’am not like the others.” You dunno whats happening, is the gravemind fooling you? But you feel, the voice is true. You feel that your mind calm down slowely. And you feel kinda secure. And slowely you get control over your body back. You hear Cortanas voice, far away… still trying to reach you. Still weak, but with growing power you manage to say in your mind: “Don´t worry, Cortana… … Iam here.”

The mutations on your body disappear slowly again. You stand up. The silent, familiar voice is still in your head. “It” is still in you. But it gave you free.
Your hand grabs you shotgun again and you stand up. “Come to me… please…”, you feel the familiar voice in you mind. It is so deep. Deeper than you heard Cortana´s voice ever.
“Chief No!”, Cortana cry, “Don´t listen to it, please.” But this time, you ignore Cortana. You can´t fight the deep voice… and you won´t ever.

You start to follow the path, that the familiar, lovely voice gives to you. Cortana is still trying to stop you; she gets desperate; she says everything to stop you… but you can´t. You say to her, that you have to check it up. But Cartana feels, that there is more; as same as yourself.

You go deeper into the infested forerunner structure. Two [enemys] appear: You kill one with your shotgun, then you grab your Magnum, beacause reloading the Shotgun would take to long now. But you dont have ammo for the magnum. You pull back, but it is a deadend. The enemy follows you. Now you see on the floor some kind of small flood spore. Something tells you, you can “use” it. You grab it, … and instantly it crawls into your body. But you don´t feel a pain. You drop your magnum. The enemy appears behind you. You spin around to attack it. And it works. You have some kind of [flood-weapon] in you. It uses only one weapon slot, like the other weapons.

After killing some more enemys on your path, you find a spanker. You try to change your [flood-weapon]. And it works. The spore leaves your body and you can use the weapon-slot for the good, old spanker.

Then you are there were the voice called you. Cortana is still very worried; but she has given up to reach you. She only hopes now that there is a small chance that you are right, and she is wrong.

You enter the infested room…
In front of you,… there is a gravemind. You feel it; the silent voice in your head comes from here. You don´t see any flood-guards. And you see… and feel… no aggresion. Then a realy small flood-creature lands in front of you. It looks like a big moth, or something with two round wings… not bigger than a crow. You feel, it is not an attack.
Then it transforms. The “dust” sets down slowly. Then you see some kind of ‘Flood-Girl’ in front of you. You feel very familiar to this strange flood-lady. But you also know, you never saw something strange like this before. Then she starts to explain:
What the Forerunners said, what they don´t said. How it happens, that she is not linked to the whole flood-mind. Why “her” flood" don´t have the “genes” that creates the evil hunger and the push to consume the galaxy. And what the Forerunners and Presecutors have do with all this. She explains, that she is very weak in comparison with the “normal” gravemind(s); and why you are here.

Cortana still don´t trust her. But this is the first time, you feel more familiar with [unknown name] than with Cortana.
You leave the room again. You want to help [unknown name]. You want to destroy the rest of the flood; the evil ones. And you feel [unknown name] words can realy the only chance to defeat the flood. Normal weapons don´t make it; the Halos worked, but they kill all… thats not an option. And you feel, you are the only chance for peace. The only chance to rescue the humans… and all the others. Unfortunately 99,99% of the flood belong to the evil-ones.

You leave the infested structure. A gigant flood form attacks you. The gravemind is after you now. You are his primary now. But you know that now. You pull you spanker and hit the [gigant flood creature]. It flys away, lands, roll on the floor and stops. You reload your smoking spanker. And you go to the [gigant flood creature]. It seems you have done this million times before, but this strange thing was never seen before. The knowledge, the lore of [unknown name] that is in your head. She is with you.
You grab the lying [gigant flood creature] with a hand. You start to transform; your body starts to fade away.
After the “dust” sets, you are gone. The [gigant flood creature] stands up. “Chief,… that trick of you is new, right?”, you hear Cortanas voice in your head.

The [gigant flood creature] stands up… you stand up. The creature looks a bit different now… it changed it´s color… a bit. “Not a Warthog, but it feels similar”, you think to yourself, Cortana and [unknown name].

Some miles away, some Marines try to survive. Their Warthog lies on the side. The [enemys] are suppressing them. “Sgt. We are out of ammo soon. We just used our last 'nades. … Sgt?! Sgt?!.. Crap I miss the broods… they were easy to hit”.
It looks like the Marines are lost. But suddenly a [gigant flood creature] appears. It kills the [enemys?] with some [flood weapons] and melee attacks. The Marines were happy. But now they have to deal with the [gigant flood creature]. But it stops… it don´t attacks them. Suddenly something start to happen on its side. Some “dust” appears and the [gigant flood creature] itself drops on the floor. The “dust” sets an Master Chief appears.
“What the -Yoink-?”, one Marine says.

Master Chief only explain them, what to do next. No word about his new ride or similar. He spins the Warthog and climbs in. The Marines still look like they have seen a ghost (“ghost” [here:] not the vehicle).
Noone moves… then all hear Cortanas voice over the Com: “Let´s take the Warthog, Marines. Or you wanna use our new ride?”

The Marines climb in the Wathog and look on “the new ride”… a [gigant flood creature] that lies on the ground.
“John, why we take the Warthog, and not the [gigant flood creature] now?”, Cortana asks John. “Because the [gigant flood creature] don´t fit through the passage overthere”, John answers.

I hope there are not to much typing and spelling mistakes. Iam from Germany, so be gentle.
I think my position is clear, if you read the small text above. Iam a writer myself (well not in English) but I only used like 8-10 Minutes to write this… getting the Ideas take longer, but I am not able to count that time.
Hope you like it. Shall be some small inspiration. I don´t think the idea of this topic is to dumb… [may be not for Halo 4, would be to much… but for sequels…]

Also the gravemind could be a boss. And you dunno what will happen, if you manage to destroy the “normal” flood-mind. Will [unknown name] die then?

{THX to: WheezierWheat89; ooduke42; and unknown others for inspiration}

Personally I say kill as many as we can. Sure, it would be a bit boring from a story point of view if the Flood dissappeared entirely from the universe. On the other hand, after reading the books and playing through an entire trilogy where we could see what they did to others, I’d rather shove a pineapple up where the sun don’t shine than be their ally for a longer period of time.
