The Flood VS Lekgolo

It has been said that the Lekgolo (the worm-like creatures that make up Hunters & power Scarabs) don’t have enough bio-mass for The Flood to infect though I don’t remember this ever being confirmed definitively.

It makes sense for it to be the case however, considering the Lekgolo would be found around Forerunner constructs eating away you’d assume at some point a Flood outbreak would’ve made contact with them

Even if the Flood did infect a colony of Lekgolo they’d only be ‘controlling’ each worm individually and that could cause problems & might be incompatible with how the Flood functions controlling a host

Under these assumptions, wouldn’t it make sense for the Lekgolo to be a best primary weapon against The Flood without having to consider the firing of a Halo ring, perhaps the Covenant could’ve realized this sooner and avoided some situations they got into with the Flood

Do you think Lekgolo stand a chance against the Flood?

Not at all.

While it’s true that the Lekgolo do not have enough biomass to utilize as Combat Forms, it’s inaccurate to say they can’t be infected. The nature of their neurological patterns also would make them poor candidates for any form of combat application. It is more likely that Flood spores would infect individual Lekgolo, spreading to the colony, kill them, and repurpose their corpses as pure biomass.

No, because the amount of Lekgolo is significantly less than how much Flood there is and can still be susceptible o influence from the logic plague, Didact went crazy in his interactions with a Keymind.

The worms would only serve to obtain more biomass with which to increase the power of the Flood, with which to form pure forms that in practice could replace a Hunter in power and threat.

A hunter could fight for longer than most other types of creatures, because infected Lekgolo would be ejected from the colony, buying it possibly extra minutes of fighting. However, that would leave a trail of biomass that could turn into spore pods to infect the next passer by, and ultimately the hunter would perish from too many of the Lekgolo getting infected for it to eject.

And as others have said, the hunters do have a collective consciousness, which does make them susceptible to the logic plague.

I believe that’s why the Didact made the Prometheans. They purge their data when they fall, so the logic plague isn’t preserved when the Promethean is ressurrected. This allows the same Prometheans to be used over and over.

Aren’t hunters a failed forerunner attempt to defeat the flood?

No, I believe you’re thinking of the Promethean Knights. They weren’t exactly failed, they just fell from service after the Didact was contained in Requiem. The Knights are created from his personal Promethean forces (initially), and are a class of armiger unique to his design and command.

No I was referring to the worms on alpha halo. The taming of the lekgolo show they are native to forerunner installations implying they were created with a purpose.
Considering how they got in mendiacant bias’ way.
I assumed the ability to not be infected and interfere with ancilla that they were one of the many failed attempts to counter the flood. The array was a last resort.
Shield worlds and things failed.
Prometheans weren’t given a chance so I guess they did not fail.

Ah, those were, yes. A colony known as Thanolekgolo, and from a Canon Fodder back in 2015 they were an experiment. But more the Forerunners trying to use lekgolo, not so much that they are a creation of the Forerunners. From what I can gather, as the Canon Fodders are currently not available.

With the Taming of the Hunters, lekgolo colonies aren’t exactly native to Forerunner Installations, but they are drawn to them because the metals used for Forerunner structures are their food. They’re native to the moons of Te, a gas giant in Svir system. The Covenant saw this as blasphemy, and waged war on the lekgolo, before suffering massive ground losses and seeing the worth of the lekgolo. They were then annexed into the Covenant, and supplied with “food” in return for their services.

Oh cool.
I was sure the wiki referred to them as native to forerunner installation.
I just assumed they were a biological counter to the flood or just a form of harvesting device to break down precious metals into pure elements or something crazy like that.

Good info, cheers.

I think so too. Now, I want to see a Flood Scarab.
