The Flood. Don't rule them out people.

If you think the Flood was stopped in Halo 3 you probably don’t know much about them. If you want a general reference of how weak the humans and covenant are think of this: The forerunner-Flood war lasted hundred of years, they themselves lost.

The flood pretty much destroyed the covenant’s home “ship” high charity, Earth, Halo, killed tons of people, overall in less then a week or 2. In 100 years at the rate the humans and covenant were in they would have lost within a year I bet.

So if the forerunners couldn’t stop the Flood they are going to be in Halo 4, I bet you.

Flood just got super

If you know the story of the Flood you would know they went from being harmless, zombie like, then a galaxy destroying parasite. Most likely the Flood never stop evolving, they probably adapt more and more, get stronger and stronger, until they get to the point The Flood is literally a perfect cell.

The Flood in Halo 4/5/6 may be more advanced then ever before. For all we know the Flood may advance to such a rate they bridge the Organic and Mechanic bridge, Imagine sentinel “infected” flood, Or vehicles being controlled with simple flood super cells.

Just an idea.

I like the idea on improving the flood because it adds a new gameplay elements to the game. I also would like to say there better be flood based firefight maps in Halo 4 like in gears 3 with locust and lambent fighting in a three way battle.

Really intriguing ideas, actually. I as well would love to see more Flood (and Sentinels as well) in Halo 4. At the moment, they are the most likely main enemies, at least in the early levels of the game.

I would also love to see a Gravemind again. Maybe this time see more of the process of going from a Proto-Gravemind to a Gravemind, rather than just destroying the Proto-Gravemind like in CE and Wars.

But yeah, I would definitely love to see more Flood and Sentinels in Halo 4.

I was kinda hoping that we wouldn’t fight the flood in Halo 4. Kinda sick of fighting them, give me something new.

I wouldn’t mind the next games, but I want a break from fighting them.

We already had a two-game break from the Flood ; )

But anyways, as of now, with a Shield World and Forerunner architecture seeming very likely in Halo 4, Flood are almost guaranteed in some capacity, at least.

> So if the forerunners couldn’t stop the Flood they are going to be in Halo 4, I bet you.

I also think there is a high chance of crossing the flood in Halo 4 and onwards through the trilogy. As we already know, the series starting with Halo 4 is named ‘The Forerunner Trilogy’ so therefore you would think the flood would take some sort of foothold being closely linked to the forerunner history. Also, we do not know if Gravemind is even dead or destroyed and such uncertain conclusions are either there for a future continue or at least to make a continue possible.

There is also the point of the Covenant possibly not being present or at least a very small portion of the story due to their defeat. This opens up a space for a new enemy, force and direction for the plot. I myself would love to see the Flood return, Halo 4 marks a new era for the universe and franchise but i think everyone would like to have that nostalgia feeling to feel they are back at home in a Halo.

I posted this link before in a thread and will say again, this analysis is of course purely speculation and extreme speculation at that. If you watch it all there are speculated hints towards the flood being present in the trailer and possibly present in Halo 4.

This.

I’m sick of fighting the flood. They are just no fun to fight.

I think the Flood make perfect sense as a minor enemy, but I think that it’s worth noting that when the Flood was defeated, it took some time for it to recuperate. When the humans first fended it off with an actual cure, it disappeared for over a millenium. When the rings were activated, it was made dormant for a hundred thousand years.

So, I think it’d be neat if there was still a Flood presence in an Alpha Halo capacity. Any Forerunner structure could have some leftovers, and the lack of Gravemind would make them a mindless ferocious force. Pests, in a sense. I don’t think they should be themselves a powerful force. Not until something allows them to be. And perhaps that could be part of the Reclaimer arc – preventing a villain from rearming the Flood.

As for fighting mechanics, I think that the Flood in Halo: Combat Evolved were fun to fight. Especially as their behaviour so contrasted the Covenant. They were reckless, assertive, fragile, inaccurate, and numerous. In Halo 2 they stopped being fragile and numerous and inaccurate. In Halo 3 they became more numerous, more fragile, but lost assertiveness and recklessness, and remained accurate. I think that Halo 4 would do well to make them reckless, assertive, fragile, inaccurate, and numerous as they were originally – and go farther with it. If that’s possible.

The Gravemind isn’t dead yet. Not his conscious anyway.

Wait a second. Wasn’t Johnson the key to finding a vaccine against the flood or something? So your telling me, due to Chief utter incompetence or ridiculous selfishness, he left the body of the one person that could forever defeat the flood?

Do I have to suffer fighting the flood again because of Chiefs mistake?

It was a slim chance of Johnson having a cure. But think about it, the Halo ring was falling apart, they still had to leave, towing around a body would slow them down and then the Chief and Arbiter may not have escaped.
