The final challenge has to get better

The good thing about that reward is that it was a reward that you could get at your own pace, without rushing or a time limit. It was difficult to get it but you didn’t have a FOMO system behind you continually pushing you to do it.

On top of that we had a long list of free cosmetics that could be obtained in another way.

Coudn’t agree more. I’ve been wearing the Willow Tea since I unlocked it.

I get that this week was a bit more than we are used to but, this week had an HCS gimmick. The point was kind of to encourage people to get more involved with the competitive modes.

It’s certainly going to be moreso the exception than the new rule of how to do challenges.

You probably just need more time with the BR. Quick play is still ranked but it just doesn’t openly display it. You’re always playing with people around your level in whatever mode you’d decide to play.

Recon is a bad example as there wasn’t any FOMO tied to it at all. It was a challenge, sure, but one that you could do at your own pace. Completely different.

And please stop acting like “win 17 games” is a challenge. It’s a time sink pure and simple. None of the challenges in the in game are actually challenging. They are varying amounts of time/frustration.

I have updated my OP post to try and contribute something to the discussion on how to improve this whole sloppy system.

Of course Recon had fomo. The sooner you get it then sooner you can be the coolest cat in the lobby.

Again I’m only interested in defending the need for the challenges to be difficult. I have all the same problems as everyone else. I’d like to have the full list available too so I can be more efficient.

A week is a long time. I had those 17 wins done with days to spare. I’d rather they be along the lines of get 2 Triple kills in PVP or get an Overkill in PVP be the final challenge. People would cry their eyes out and I know I’m in a minority but, I prefer that over just have tedious time consuming challenges.

I think we have different concepts of what a FOMO system is

Hate to sound insensitive but having fomo over the really rubbish cosmetics in this game is a you problem. Some people have it some don’t.

I’m ok with missing out on some of the content for not logging on every day over Christmas.

I do like your edited post of solutions though.

That’s not FOMO. FOMO is time-gating content so that you HAVE to play in order to receive it.

We have a fundamentally different idea from the foundation of how this system should work. I’m of the mind that with a little bit of time and dedication, that everyone should have the ability to unlock these things. You are obviously not of that same mindset. I think that locking certain content behind high difficulty walls creates a toxic environment. I understand the point-of-view of having something to brag amount/show off. And I actually think that that’s something that every game should have to some level. I just don’t think that the weekly challenge unlock should be that. No one cares about the stupid toaster nameplate thing this week. But it is something to aspire to, which is a good thing. Stopping people from even trying due to a horrible challenge system just so that a couple of people can flex that they put-up with the horrible system longer than everyone else isn’t a great place to be at lol

EDIT: and with the horrible RNG of the current system, it’s not even guaranteed that someone did the same thing as you. They could have gotten extremely lucky with their challenges, or paid out for swaps to make it easier. There’s no flex in either of those regards.

Please understand I’m not interested in any of the weekly rewards at all. Only one I’ve equipped was the Sniper skin since I didn’t pay for another one.

I do them because they are there and level up the battlepass. Everyone else is fine to do the same to level up too. They’re quick and easy and don’t require too much effort.

343 added in a final challenge that requires a little more effort to complete, for people that want to, in order to unlock a little piece of customisation.

I really don’t see the issue. It doesn’t ask for much; it asks for just enough to gatekeep the less dedicated out. Thus making that reward a little more interesting than it otherwise would have been due to it being a little more exclusive.

I’m not defending the ones that are Play 5 games of Ranked Oddball for obvious rng reasons. I do defend making the rewards a little more exclusive.

Recon didn’t have a hard time limit but if you’re getting it 6-12 months after it became available then, who cares? It’s no longer interesting.

Similar with the Willow Tea shader thing. For a week or two it’s interesting to have and now I never see it anymore.

Yes it’s less clout, but it’s not completely unavailable. That’s literally what “missing out” means. Missing out on the opportunity to obtain it at all.

Instead of nitpicking this one particular example I made contribute something to the rest of the content of this thread.

Thanks

I agree with the rest of what you said. Thank you.

I like when people call objecting to a point as nitpicking as if that’s a counter argument.

Yeah lets remove the ‘challenge’ from the Challenges.

Without the final challenge it would lack finality.

I do like the improvements they’ve made thus far in what challenges need to be done, so I’m sure they’ll continue making more interesting ones as they go on.
