That shot of Chief going zero-g and just passing by dead marines throughout a wrecked UNSC ship, with Chief looking back each time. It definitely got the feel of loss and Chief’s emotions down.
I also like the Captain Cortana (name because she acts and looks like a naval officer), because while we can recognize her as Cortana, she is different enough to remind us that she is not the original: Cap Cortana is formal and nervous (because she’s out of her element, she was supposed to be a short-term AI), whereas the original was less formal but very serious about her work.
We know so far: the UNSC went to Zeta Halo to retrieve and destroy Pax-Cortana. The Banished arrived and defeated the UNSC. Chief then comes back to rally UNSC forces, then meets up with Captain Cortana. We learn that Pax Cortana was destroyed, but not by the UNSC. The marketing has done a good job concealing what the story is, and it’s why I really want to play: I want to know the what and why.
I have absolutely zero hype for this game’s story at the moment. Unless it’s just a fake out, offing Cortana in a hand wavy scene of dialogue is such a joke. Hope 343 can pull off a good one, but it just feel like they gave up again on the story front.
I’m still lost in the story cycle, and I needed more, I really needed more. I do like whats been available but I hope for more, the end of 5 left us with a re-encounter with Halsey, a rag-tag group of Spartans and Sanghelli, and Cortana pursuing Infinity.
I think it’s better to not read too much into the trailers. Halo trailers are known to be quite different compared to the real games.I’m a bit disapointed that we got so little (just a CG cinematic in space) as we’ve been waiting for a long time.the game looks very good though !

Press release says that the mystery of what happened to cortana is part of the main story. I can guarantee you they are not deleting her off screen
This is pretty much what they did with Shepard in ME2
I’m glad that the story is going to actively deal with the events of Halo 5, rather than just ignoring them in favour of a truely isolated story.
I just hope they don’t pull another Jul, and effectively wipe the slate clean in the first hour of the game.

I don’t think Cortana is being killed (deleted) off screen. The new Cortana says that chief was supposed to deliver her to be deleted but that didn’t happen. Plus, new cortana was also supposed to auto delete once Cortana was deleted and she even says, “and I’m still here…”
I like this mystery their going with honestly. I just hope they don’t mess it up like they did in halo 5 foreshadowing “rogue” chief and lockes grande mission to capture him. Which almost none of that actually had anything in the story in the final product
no way is evil cortana dead. think about it, they kill her in a story trailer? come on now. the a.i was meant to end after it completed its mission, it did not. I think thats a big hint to whats going on.

This was me after last year’s showing. This is just speculation but based off what the trailer showed today it seems like discovering what happened to Cortana will be a part of the plot. I do see where you’re coming from.
I’d be astonished- no, I’d be GOBSMACKED, if 343i honestly kills off Cortana off-screen. That possibility didn’t even enter my mind seeing the story teases on display today. It would be a tremendous mistake if they did opt to do that, but I still don’t at all believe it to be the case. Just because New-tana says Cortana was deleted doesn’t mean she actually was, and even if she was- or rather, even if Halsey and Infinity tried to delete her, there’s no assurance at all that such an attempt was successful.
More than anything, what we saw today intrigued me as to the implications of what actually happened, how things are shaping up, etc. I also think this was a slice pulled from a point far from early in Infinite’s narrative- nothing to really back that up, but, again, it would be astoundingly poorly thought out to just explain that Cortana died in exposition at the beginning of the game. If that’s really the tact they take with it, then everything I’m saying here is totally invalid. I’m not the biggest believer in 343i’s ability to tell a good Halo story as someone who hasn’t really enjoyed either Halo 4 or 5 on that front, but I can’t wrap my head around them doing something that dumb with it.

They’ve lied in press releases before. At this point I’m just assuming the worst so I can hopefully be pleasantly surprised.
I’m not a fan of replacing Cortana, people are probably tired of hearing me say this by now, I’m sry, but I think making Cortana evil in the first place was the worse decision ever made for Halo.
It’s gonna be hard to make the Cortana-plot work, but I really really hope they do, the rest of the aspects of the story seem really good.

Even if she is dead, you can tell from the subtext of the dialogue that they’re going to explore what happened. Personally, I don’t think she’s dead. This just seems like a convenient way of initially making the banished the primary threat and we’ll find out she’s still alive later on.

yeh there is a lot going on tbh, its quite complex. sadly once again if u just play the games its hard to understand anything and it all seems abit like they are just trying to write off h5
There’s another possibility people haven’t seem to acknowledge, but what if that cutscene is from a later point in the game? I severely doubt that they would just pull a Jul on Cortana and they even say in the trailer that things didn’t go according to plan since the New Cortana is still around. I have a feeling Halo Infinite is going to start out with the UNSC doing it’s initial conflict with the Created and then the game will lead up to where the trailers were at since it feels like they have been doing this out of order to build the mystery of what exactly went down post Halo 5.
