I’m worried. This game means so much to us all. Its getting less and less popular for whatever reasons. I’m worried cos I think the ship is sinking and I don’t want that.
Its not sinking, all the other ships are rising.
Its not sinking, its just not the only ship on the ocean now. It has to make way for other bigger boats, you can’t expect everyone to stick to the same ship.
This is going to be the last Halo game I play online. I will play the campaign of H6 but only via borrowed game or rented game.
And then if H6 campaign is as bad as H5, I wont bother continuing the story after that. I’ll just play Halo 1/2/3 to re-solidify that story in my mind and then be done with the Halo franchise.
It’s just as Noble Warlord said, the other ships are rising now. There are far better, far more intuitive games out there anymore. The team behind this game has shown they’re very anti-community and they don’t respond well to the need for change.

Come on, “for whatever reasons”? There have been plenty of people not happy with where the series went. Obviously they decided not to stick around. And the series is doing little to distinguish itself to bring in new fans. It’s not hard to see why it’s happening.
The franchise will probably continue to do well enough to keep being made, but it’s no longer a system seller or a must have game. It’ll probably fall by the way side and become just another exclusive as another franchise rises up to be the Xbox’s killer app.
The quality and community have gone to crap, people are going to leave that in bulk.
It may not be sinking, but it is grounded because someone keeps sabotaging its engines.

It’s not for whatever reasons. It’s for obvious reasons that you can find people complaining about here on these exact forums, yet 343 doesn’t do anything about.

Problem is, the “dlc” is so bad that a lot of people think it would be better if it costed money, as long as the quality improved.
And I agree.
I’d rather pay for good DLC than get free crap.
Probably best at this point to jump ship so Microsoft will get the message and put in a real effort on all fronts.
I’m talking good UI, Decent graphics, split screen, solid story, Halo style music and artwork, community input, forge, firefight.
Basically like a quality content fiesta like Halo Reach threw down.
As of right now, Microsoft is just riding what’s left of Halo and sucking up money.

Oh look, its the “competition” bogeyman again…
For the ship to not actually be sinking, one would expect that it actually needs to stay at or above the level it was before. You can’t sell basically half the copies of your immediate predecessor and drop out of the top 10 of the XBL most played list within all of two months and claim the ship is not sinking.
You could argue that the ship could stop taking on water and rise again, but you currently can’t argue that the ship has not indeed sunk, although obviously not completely.
Even if we accept the whole “Halo 3 didn’t have competition” type of nonsense, its been 6 years since MW2 came out and firmly established the dominance of the CoD franchise among plenty of other franchises. That is plenty of time to catch up to the rest of the “rising ships”, yet Halo has only continued to decline.
The franchise could bounce back, it could hold steady where it is(becoming the new status quo for the series), but it could also very easily decline even further than it has already. To not consider that possibility at this stage is the same as burying your head in the sand.

Good DLC: Community splits at the line between vanilla and DLC-enabled
Junk DLC: Community splits at the line between playing Halo 5 and moving on to other games.

I can consider your possibility on its own merits, there is a population drop that would be hard to argue otherwise.
However, you could be doing exactly what I’ve bolded by refusing to recognize the possibility that Halo is being stifled in a genre that is incredibly (and severely) overcrowded and muddled down in addition to the argument that it might not be as popular as years past. MW2 isn’t, and wasn’t the only threat to Halo’s rescinded dominance.
The game certainly did itself no favors in a 2015 launch, especially when Star Wars Battlefront was riding the hype of the return of its associated franchise, and Fallout 4 similarly gaining hype because of the lack of entries in the past five years. I’m not saying that your argument isn’t valid, but you’d have to have your own head in the sand to discount the possibility.
My own personal solution for Halo “bouncing back” would be to delay Halo 6 to launch alongside the successor to the Xbox One (And the current rumors place it around 2019, which is plausible) Maybe launch a few smaller spinoffs during that time to build up momentum.
I would say Halo is doing pretty dang good.
Feel free to use the population thread to discuss the population.
