There has been numerous outrages, outcries, concerns in the direction of how the control scheme will be.
From the MLG forums, to GameFaqs, to the Halo Waypoint forums, and all across the internet.
The problems comes to now that sprint has a button and it’s not part of the armor abilities and we the fans are upset where things are mapped to.
Rather than just put up a small variety of control methods here is a solution…
in addition to control methods such as default, recon, bumper Jumper etc, add a feature to configure what button does what.
It’s better to just simply add the flexibility for player convenience rather than create problems for them.
If 343 is truly listening to the fans, this is what we desperately need. As of right now Halo is lacking in proper constancies in control methods, best to add the player convenience.

They have to make sure the layouts they have wont cancel any animations like in Halo 2 with BXR and YY. So if we want custom layouts EVERY possible combo would have to be tested to make sure it can’t cut out animations.

That was one of the features I really appreciated in Quake 4 when I played it on the Xbox 360.
That would be a TON of different outcomes to try … I don’t blame 343 for focusing on more important stuff, though I do feel it should and could be implemented in the next halo. They will have the time.

Other games can and do successfully implement custom button layouts, halo 4 has no excuse not to do it too.

Not to play devils lawyer, but these other games you speak of are not the pride and joy, the flagship IP of the xbox gaming console. They’re not as competitive, not the core for e-sports on consoles. Allowing custom mapping is to open the game for infamous button combos/exploits that tormented the series in it’s youth, also it would mean extra coding and such for 343i, time and resources better spent elsewhere imo.
TL;DR 343i learnt from bungies mistakes and want no button combos that give unfair advantages. 343i cares, other devs don’t, simple as that.
Good idea OP, but as others have stated, the testing which would need to go into this idea is just not possible right now. Maybe we’ll see it in a later Halo game though…

Like I said earlier it is more of an issue with the animation system and testing out EVERY possible layout with the animation system.
Again while it would be nice Halo 4 is literally weeks away from being finished, its all polish now.
