Hey guys. I’m just starting to get into the Halo book lore, with finishing up Ghosts of Onyx, with First Strike coming next (I know I’m reading them out of order). But I see there’s a new Fall of Reach book debuting in March. Can anyone tell me if this is the same Fall of Reach book already released, or if this is something completely different? Any/all help would be GREATLY appreciated!
its the same
its the same comic adaptation by Brian reed from 2010 of the Halo Reach Novel. The only diffrence stated is that the 3 volumes (boot, covernant and invasion) are in one binding with a new cover by ex-bungie concept artist.
So there was more than one part to The Fall of Reach, when it was originally published?

Yes, you had Fall of Reach, The Flood, and First Strike.
Fall of Reach was from John’s childhood years up until right before Combat Evolved began.
The Flood -is- Combat Evolved with other details.
First Strike is Chief’s return to Earth.

Got it! Thank you! So, I should get Fall of Reach & The Flood then, seeing how I got First Strike for Christmas. I don’t want to re-buy something I already have. Now, I assume I should read Fall of Reach & The Flood before I read First Strike?

Yes, it’s the order of which I outlined them above. Just know that there are some differences in Fall of Reach from the game, such as dates given during the Battle of Reach. I try to ignore the dates in the game itself so that there aren’t any discrepancies. But that’s just me. Just read them in the order above and you should be fine–They’re very good reads!

Yes
A lot of characters and locations from The Fall Of Reach are revisited in First Strike, and some of it won’t make sense if you read First Strike first.

Cool. I’m reading Ghosts of Onyx as my very first Halo read EVER, and I’m in love with it. Just got a deal from Barnes & Noble for Fall of Reach & The Flood and Halo: Cryptum: The Forerunner Saga #1. Anything to know about this saga I’ll be starting after a while?
Though, it struck my sort of weird how Halsey didn’t know about the Spartan - III project, when clearly she was talking to Noble Team during Halo: REACH. REACH was suppose to take place well before Onyx, which is after H:CE and during the events of H2. So I’ll keep in mind that some of the dates from the game are off.

I couldn’t tell you, since I haven’t read the Forerunner saga.
In regards to the spoiler…
I believe Halsey thought she was speaking to another version of her Spartan IIs, possibly just some sort of Marine or ODST outfitted with Spartan gear. There’s truly no way of knowing what she was looking at. I mean, Carter looked adult at the time, as did the others. And the fact that Jorge was with them may have helped influence her thinking that they -were- regular military outfitted with Spartan equipment due to the low number of them.

I didn’t think of that, but you could be 100% right! Now, Jorge called her “mum”. Was he really her son?

Haha, no. Jorge is most definitely not her son. The Spartan IIs were like children to her, and really, besides Deja, who you’ll meet in The Fall of Reach she’s the only real motherly figure the IIs had. Some, such as Jorge, may have indeed looked up to her as their own mother due to not having one of their own anymore.
Of course, it is debatable whether or not he said, “Ma’am” instead of “Mom” (accent not withstanding in text).

I never realized that he was a Spartan - II until I just “Googled” him. I always thought he was a S-III like the rest of the team. Now that I know he’s a S-II, it makes so much more sense and why she asked what happened to his Mk-V armor.
The new TV series is out
