The factor that damages my fun

I like the battles in Halo with close range assault rifling, beat downs and up close/in your face battles. A game mode like team Assault rifles or team BR’s meant a level playing field with skill the only seperator.

In Halo 4, starting weapons automatically eliminate the level playing field, and the whole balance argument is thrown up. If everyone was forced to use the same weapon and use pickups if they wanted to use say a BR or DMR, then there would be no care over OP weapons.

At the moment, I feel like because (I’m not saying it’s OP, but it’s the most effective) the DMR seems to be the most versatile in each area of combat, it is the top choice.

What this has done, is turn maps like Ragnarok into maps where everybody engages the enemy at such range, it turns into a game where somebody is sat so far away, firing back and killing is relatively impossible, leading to each team just taking pot shots at each other and the first person to shoot winning.

It just seems like at the moment all the battles are long range battles. Whereas if team assault rifles etc was added it would change the gameplay up a bit.

I enjoy the game, It’s just at this current time It seems to lack variety in its gameplay and is just a long range DMR battle in every game. The assault rifle has no place, when I use the BR it still gets outclassed by the DMR, and I’ve gently found myself forced to need to use the DMR to give myself a good chance of doing well in the game easily. I’d like to use the carbine, but it doesn’t have effectiveness in anyway against the DMR, likewise the assault rifle.

It was the same with DMR or BR starts in other Halo games… Also, limiting to only AR means you’ll just end up with pistol battles from across the map.

If it was team DMR’s/BR’s then I’d expect that type of gameplay, so I’d enjoy that in its separateness.

But it really is just long range engagement with whoever fires the first shot winning.

And I really wouldn’t see everyone using the magnum for long range if everyone had assault rifles. I think it’d see some close combat thrown back in the game. Along with some much needed variety.

Give me one reason why I would use the assault rifle over the DMR. There isn’t one. Because the Assault rifle even gets outclassed in its best combat range.

The game is too much of a long range “you shoot, I shoot” affair, there’s no sort of close range combat anymore. And I can’t count the times that I kill someone, only for a DMR shot to come in from 4 miles away and kill me. The clip size and reticle makes it so easy to use at range and close range.

After 8 years of being forced to start with either the AR or SMG (in H2) I am not going back. I hated AR starts games in past Halos and am really glad they are history.

I don’t have a problem on Ragnarok so I don’t know what you’re doing wrong. If everyone is just sitting back camping, just use your brain to sneakily close the gap and kill them, or just push up and control the middle hill = guaranteed win.

The thing is, you are complaining about people using long range weapons on large maps. That has no merit. Why would I run up to you when I can hit you from far away? It would make more sense to use the AR in close range maps and stick to the DMR in large maps, don’t you think? It isn’t like the AR is weak in this game, you just have to pick when to use it just like every other weapon. That’s how multiplayer games work, you have to come up with strategies to beat other players doing the same thing.

I could not agree more. AR is for -Yoink!- that can’t aim - that is it. I am happy that the days of massive AR pummel’s are nearly gone.

I grew that on a long range map, there will always be long range battles, but the DMR’s range seems further than the BR ever was on Halo 3, and the range it can kill at really does mean that whoever fires first wins. It just seems like the range you can kill at is much further, and the likelihood of any close range encounter is slim

Also, just because I don’t enjoy constantly using the DMR and having DMR fights doesn’t mean I’m bad at the game and need to use an assault rifle because I cannot aim.

I can use either, I just prefer some variety. And right now, it’s a long range DMR fest.

I simply wish their could be game modes that mean you use other weapons.
