The EXP Cap Issue.

THIS IS NOT A CRITICISM POST.

A lot of people will probably sit and probably make various sounds or noises when they hear the words ‘‘EXP Cap’’ However i haven’t seen a thread yet with some basic ideas or concept on how to fix it or come to some form of alternate agreement with 343 industries, however i have seen a lot of hate towards its concept of implementing this back into Halo. There is mainly two things you need to consider. the Good and the Bad of this situation, as well as i will try to provide a solution which will benefit both sides of the scales…

The Good
The good is various concepts such as:

• It keeps a ‘‘lock-down’’ on how much Online boosters can obtain unless they know the basic method of how to bypass it.

• It prevents everyone rushing through the ranks and getting left behind, missing out on equipment and so forth, so it keeps online at a steadier leveling pace.

• It can make you go forth and play other parts of the game such as Campaign or Forge. Or even encourage a break from the game itself.

• Can also make you focus towards challenges and other aspects of multi-player rather than just EXP.

The Bad
The more popular bad concepts are:

• The issue with anyone above approximately 28 will start to experience moderately slow level increases from then onward due to the increase in EXP needed and the limit to what they can receive daily. This increases as ranks progress

• The EXP Cap also prevents many players from enjoying the Multi-player service which is available as they want to rank up.

• It doesn’t stop the Online Boosting which takes place, A player can simply bypass the cap by exploiting basic Xbox functions. As well as boost offline and use the same method with the advantage of not being caught.

• Rushing through ranks is inevitable due to the Mountain Dew Special in the USA which allows double EXP for a limited time, as well as people also level up at different rates differing on skill within the game.

Possible Solutions
I’ll keep those to a minimal of four as those are the main ones i can personally address with the actual functions of this cap. Although these have been stated i have thought to myself a few solutions of which 343 could possibly take into consideration which would take minimal effort to ensure enjoyment is kept on both sides, unfortunately not all ideas may reflect this.

Removal
This is unfortunately all one sided to the people who dislike it, this means a complete removal of the cap system to let players level up freely without the hassle of how much exp they’re allowed to earn.

Modify
This is pretty mutual between both sides, An increase within the EXP cap amount to benefit those with higher ranks as stated, so instead of a approximate 50,000 - 75,000 Cap, we now get e.g: 80,000 - 115,000, This is approximately 3 or 4 levels varying on the users exp etc on a player who is above level 38.

Peak Times
When servers are busy and may start to struggle as such, make the cap active so it ensures matchmaking will be as smooth as possible, however keep the cap as a modified cap but with less change.

Keep
Like before it’s one sided, keep the cap and possibly make it more efficient to be able to catch boosters too, or even edit the offline cap and fix the issue which allows users to bypass such.

Timing.
Keep the Cap, but change the times of which it is removed, similar to the Peak time option, we already know it resets at 00:00 differing on timezone as well as 5AM EST for when new challenges have been added. so why not make it an alternating thing? such as every 5-6 hours.

It would also be nice to hear some feedback from the community if possible whether it is via comment or even clicking a poll option. All we need is to voice our opinions properly.

  • iFirework.

I understand the need for a cap, but i do not agree with it at all… It shouldnt be dictated to me how i can play a game… I dont want to continue playing after i hit the cap due to missing out on oommendation exps.

What annoys me the most is that i bought the limited edition… Which as most people know, came with early access to the speciaizations. This was an incentive to many to purchse the more expensive product. Now, having to be level 50 to use them i can appreciate, but then limiting how fast i can get there?

To top it off. “early access” will be granted to everyone who played onlive before the 20th of this month… Knowing that i may aswell of bought the standard edition as my early access really means nothing other than i can already see them in the menu.

I was gonna by pass CoD this year… now im not so sure… This is a great game… best halo since Halo 2, but this is a major downside imo.

I can relate entirely, it frustrates me greatly how our Ltd Edition Access has literally just been withdrawn from us… if they stated it was the first 3-4 days. such as 6-10th November, i doubt i’d be so frustrated… but knowing people can buy it basically on a christmas sale and get access to it the same as i have done but cost me £56…

I dont agree either to the limitations after giving us the access… if they were to do this i’d rather of been able to access them 10 levels earlier.

This is probably the best thread I’ve seen in terms of being constructive and not just ranting/hating from the OP.

You’ve almost summed up in so many words what I believe should occur.

“…An increase within the EXP cap amount to benefit those with higher ranks as stated, so instead of a approximate 50,000 - 75,000 Cap, we now get e.g: 80,000 - 115,000…” and “…possibly make it more efficient to be able to catch boosters too, or even edit the offline cap and fix the issue which allows users to bypass such.”

343 said somewhere that they were going to monitor exp gains and people hitting the cap in the coming weeks. With them having this information, I think they should just increase the cap by 20,000-40,000 in general. They should then slightly increase the cap for higher ranks so that it doesn’t seem as if you’re progressing less.

The second half of what I quoted is just that. Somehow being able to fix the offline boosting and changing time regions would be nice.

Also: While I do feel for the people with LE, you haven’t lost early access entirely. I’m at 46, almost 47, right now. I’m almost certain that I’ll hit SR70 before the 20th leaving me with a couple days of not being able to get any specs. It doesn’t really matter, but I just wish that I had like 3 specs to level on release so that I would have something to progress on :(.

Thank you for the response and compliments

It’s not hard to make a thread which is constructed and voices what you need to say if you put your mind to it, However if 343 are monitoring it lets hope they don’t take months in doing so, 1-2 week is all that should be needed for checking cap peaks and such as its only checking time frames to get there and so forth, i saw a thread earlier stating it was 150k which is higher than reach however ive peaked way before that amount has been given to me.

The cap doesnt bother me because i barely play. But i do feel bad for the people that play a lot and cant earn their stuff because they cant earn anymore xp for the day. But i have a solution…GO OUTSIDE AND ENJOY YOURSELF.

But the whole reason we bought halo was to be inside!

That aside, The cap seems to jitter, i got stopped today at 2pm GMT and i’ve done nothing until midnight apart from campaign and been with my other half, but it was frustrating as she also wanted to play halo with me, we played a few games but i got no benefit from it…

Going outside and such is probably done more regular than you think. .it’s just the cap we’re discussing here though.

Fact is, ive been stuck in bed since halo 4’s release (Broken leg), im currently rank SR-39.
i havent hit the XP cap at all, and have about 34 hours playtime

I can see why some may like the exp cap but i have hit it ever day and that has really not helped me want to keep playing so removing it would be a much better choice.

im SR-44 and the cap doesn’t bother me as much as losing the credits from my commendations just because i hit the cap. those shouldn’t be effected by the cap and should still go towards you rank.

I could only rank up 1 lvl today before I hit the cap.

BadDog, That is happening to a lot of people lately, anyway Feedback is always welcome, vote in the poll or post your opinions in the comments.

This should be a simple issue. The results of the policy don’t matter. The fact that you are telling players that they can only advance to a certain point daily is wrong. Certain players are going to take advantage of any system if their level is really that important to them. Punishing everyone collectively with a cap is not a solution. People who have a problem with players being higher than them need to fix those issues within themselves instead of crippling the entire community.

Not only that but the financial side of things, people payed big money to recieve double exp from Mtn Dew and Doritos i think it is in the USA, as well as you said everyone is being penalized for something of which shouldn’t be happening, ive played a few games of flood and i can sense hitting the cap soon

I honestly have no oppinion. I swear im one of the only people that has’nt been capped, and I really don’t know why.

Put simply, I’m a gamer. I’ve beat the campaign on Legendary, and wanted to play the whole weekend away with matchmaking, but hitting the cap of XP has made it less enjoyable. Yes, in all honesty, I am a hardcore, play for hours, Halo fanatic. I would prefer there be no cap, just as in Halo Reach, or Halo 3, players who may be high ranking, are not at all times a high threat. I’m not worried about people ranking up faster or slower than me, I want to play on my time, and I want to rank up as efficiently as I can. This cap makes it almost no fun at all to play since it removes my basic want, to gain experience. Yes there are challenges and commendations I can earn, but what is the fun of going through all the work and not gaining the ranks? I say: Remove the cap, or raise it to an extremely elevated state, such as 300,000, for those gamers who really have no life, or who play for more than 24 consecutive hours.
