When Chief met The Librarian and she “evolved” him, he could have been gifted with the ability to connect to The Domain. Younger Forerunners couldn’t access The Domain until they “evolved.” I know that the Halos eradicated The Domain (based on the fact that the Halos targeted neural-systems), but this could connect Chief to the Precursors thus connecting him to the flood. Also when The Librarian “evolved” him we did not notice a physical change… sooo it must obviously be a mental change, a neural change.
The Precursors’ architecture was known to be indestructible because of it’s being built with neural-physics. But because the Halos targeted this they were ultimately destroyed. There possibly could be remnants of The Domain/Precursor Architecture outside of the effective radius of the Halo Array with which Chief can connect to. This could be the Chief’s connection to the Didact (since he can connect to The Domain) and to the Flood (Flood being the Precursors).
There are so many possibilities that it mind-blowing. I do hope that 343 focuses on what the flood really are and how dangerous they can be and were. I also hope that we come in contact with the Life-Workers and the Warrior-Servants. That could result in some great battles etc. I also hope to expand on the unimaginable technological prowess the Forerunners possessed (Look at their technology in Halo: Legends almost godly, ethereal, stunning) I do hope we focus on more of the true Forerunner technology (sentinels, beam weaponry, weapon systems, vehicles, etc.) I do hope we come into contact with the Precursors so I can be amazed at their Technological level (The Forerunners were amazed by it) I also hope we come into contact with other worlds (not necessarily Forerunner) and Forerunner installations. I want to feel scared (god-fearing type of scared) of their unbelievable technology and control of what can happen. Cortana could be in the Domain, be part of Forerunner/Precursor technology- become God-like.

While I don’t believe the Precursor Domain survived, we do know the Forerunners on Path Kethona were able to make their own organic Domain. I have a feeling that Cortana or Halsey’s minds, gearing more towards Halsey since she isn’t dead, can become the foundation for a new one along with whatever the Absolute Record is.

I totally agree re: Forerunner Tech’s ability to awe. Halo 4 didn’t give me the same sense of awe that which previous titles did. Mantle’s Approach had potential but I feel they didn’t give it enough backstory. The rest was either too far in the background, too hidden in the clouds, or too small to really make any lasting impressions for me. Watching the Didact manipulate hardlight was pretty cool, though.
So overall, I feel the Forerunners aren’t as interesting as they once were. Different, yes, but not necessarily better. This was bound to happen, though. As soon as you roll back the curtain, the excitement and amazement winds down. Here’s hoping 343 can find a way to keep Forerunner fresh for a long while.
This is why I’m not in any hurry to see the Precursors. I’d rather they remain a permanent mystery, but I know that will never happen. If anything, they should tease us with nothing but Star Roads and Unbending Filaments for at least 5 major titles before they roll back that curtain
I definitely agree that some sort of mental change occurred. I also believe that these changes that Chief underwent weren’t an evolution of his human body but an evolution of his augmentations. Meaning that what Chief got from the Librarian is something that all Spartans will one day have. So these mental changes were probably linked to his augmentations.
The telepathic link the Chief has with the Didact seems to be one of these changes. So one day we might see telepathy as one of the many enhancements Spartans gain as part of the augmentation process. But at this time the only one that can get in Chief’s head in this manner is the Didact or some other Forerunner.
The obvious immunity to the composer is something we might see all Spartans have too. This makes me think that the Didacts current form is what the Spartans heading towards considering he’s the only Forerunner to have this enhancement that we know of. The Librarian could’ve quickly added this to our geas after she trapped the Didact.
Then there’s the enhancement that allows Forerunners to access the Domain. An enhancement that is acquired by a first form Forerunner and nothing more. The way I see it for all we know the SIIs had the potential to access the Domain after their augmentations all those years or maybe the capability could’ve been achieved during the creation of the IIIs, IVs or maybe even Orions. I mean how could they know if they actually had it? There’s no Domain to connect to so the Spartans are probably just like those Terminals in Halo 4, they’re capable of the connection but there’s nothing there to connect to.
It’s completely reasonable to think that this was one of the Librarians gifts but there’s just no way of telling unless we get a new Domain or find some other way to test for the capability.
^ I agree to some extent. I feel Chief is the only one capable since the Librarian herself stated that SHE has to accelerate his evolution herself, which means that what she did to him is something that normal humans must achieve (evolve) through some future genetic manipulation or even natural selection. We know that the Forerunners were very open to natural selection, mutation, genetic manipulation, etc. but I think that what she’s done only further brings to fruition the fact that Chief will have future contact with Flood/Precursors. Also the Forerunners had some knowledge of Precursor technology i.e. neural physics, since they had access to the Domain, relics, Halos, etc. I think that unbeknownst to the rest of the Forerunner population, the Librarian somehow has some sort of ability to manipulate the neural systems of Chief, and only him. I hope that this theory is examined in future titles, even Halo 5. I love this idea as it makes the Forerunners seem even god-like not even to mention the Flood/Precursors.

Add to the fact the Librarian told us that’s what she did, I highly doubt that she did anything else.
The domain is gone, likely including the biological form on Path Kethona.

Pretty sure she said that John had a LOT of special genetic mutation power thingies and that he had to ‘unlock’ them or something like that.
Whoa, I’m getting this whole ‘Halo universe’ feel again. That feeling when you get yourself wrapped up in Halo’s story.
I know that the Domain was destroyed by the Halos, but, on account of Forerunners making a physical Domain, who’s to say that the Engineers (Forerunner created Biological creatures)or other Forerunner creations didn’t build a new one. The Engineers possibly can build a new Domain given their vast knowledge and power over technology woven into them by the Forerunners. Also, it was said that the Engineers will play a part in the future Halo universe.

#2 Engineers will probably be needed in unlocking the secrets of the Janus Key
#3 They were a major plot point in Halo 3: ODST
Why make the Engineers a major part of the universe if they weren’t necessary. ONI could possibly know some secrets about the Engineers and how they could use the Engineers to their benefit- unlocking/building a New Domain. The Janus Key undoubtedly reveal many secrets about the Forerunners, possibly even a physical Domain. Possibly.
Also, given that 343 Guilty Spark’s personality was recovered and his leading the “sleeping” humans to where he thinks the Librarian is could lend to some plot points involving this theory. And whose to say that 343 Guilty Spark, whose part personality is Forthencho (ancient human leader), doesn’t have knowledge or even access (since he is human) to a physical Domain, etc. (if his personality can be encrypted)A lot to take in. And I hope 343 takes notice>

I just want to add this, what if the Precursors return? I mean they could, they were trans-galactic travelers Tier-0 on the Technological scale… Transentient. They could possibly still exist somewhere (in another galaxy, or ever here i.e. the Flood)

a realm or range of personal knowledge, responsibility, etc.
The new Domain (if possible… this is just a theory btw) could be the Chief’s opportunity to finally unlocking his personal power/knowledge/?genetic-memory? It could also be his connection to the Precursors. The Librarian could still be living and even have built her own physical Domain to reach out to humans. If the stored personality of the Librarian accelerated his evolution she could have just gave him access to the new Domain, thus connecting him to the actual Librarian (she planned everything, right?) This could ultimately connecting to the Mantle attracting the Precursor/Flood… this could be Human-Kind’s test.~~*
