The Evolution of Halo Soundtracks

I’ve been listening to all of the Halo soundtracks as my studying music for awhile now, and I’ve become pretty familiar with the tracks. Obviously, I love them all. This is in spite of the fact that the soundtracks for Halo 4 and Halo 5 are very different in style from those of O’Donnell and Salvatori and the Bungie games.

O’Donnell and Salvatori’s music is classic, and I think I can safely assume that all fans love it. But what do you think of the direction the new music is headed? I know there has to be some difference in opinion because the musical styles between the two eras differ greatly. Personally, I think the newer music is special in its own way, and that Kazuma’s soundtrack was one of the biggest bright spots of a disappointing Halo 5 (but I think we’ve hammered Halo 5 quality discussions into the ground enough). Anyway, you thoughts please on Halo music.

I’m still in love with the main theme. I really liked Kazuma’s work in 5, but the Halo 4 soundtrack is nothing special, in my eyes.

Outside of 117 and arrival, little stuck with me in 4. However, I felt that 5’s soundtrack was very strong.

117 is actually the only track on Volume 1 on Halo 4 that was composed by Kazuma, with the rest by Neil Davidge. Actually, the only two tracks I really like by Davidge were “To Galaxy” and “Green and Blue” (which, to be fair, I like ALOT). Other tracks by Kazuma from Halo 4 include “Sacrifice”, “Laskey’s Theme”, and the rehashed “Never Forget”, which I think are wonderful. In general, I like Kazuma’s work with Halo 4 better than Davidge’s. Maybe 343 agrees with me and that’s why Halo 5 was all Kazuma.
