The Evolution of Breakout

when breakout was first announced i was hype to see a new game mode based around teamwork and one life. i’m sure other were too[some hated it at first sight]. it was fun and different until you played it competitively. long stale mates. camping players and ridiculous trades that never made sense. all these problems and more is the reason it was taken out of HCS. as much as i loved it i understood why it had to go but i would like to see it come back in a better form. my suggestion is to make it more team oriented than it already is with the following. READ EXPLANATION AFTER BULLET POINTS

  • instead of no shields. have the shields be strong enough where it take 6 shots to kill with the pistol - on death you have a full view of the map instead of 3rd person - longer round times. 5 mins as a suggestion - power weapons on pad that would be on a 1 min respawn - new spawning system that makes sure teams are never uneven - you spawn with no grenades but you can have them as map pickupsAlways even teams
    First i will explain the new spawn system as its the meat of the evolution. its fun to clutch and win a round with lets say 2 against 4 but when good players are playing making a push with 2 people is nearly impossible if the team of 4 is setup right. since this mode is about one life i suggest that when one player dies on team A the team B losses a player but here’s the important part. the player taken off the team B is put into a pool spectating the match with the new full view camera. in this case its a 3 on 4 turned into a 3 on 3. if team A kills one on team B, team B’s fourth spawns in and it is now turned back into a 3v3. this ensures that the loosing team needs to beat them twice in a even setting. since it will always be even teams no one will have an excuse to camp and you will be able to push with your team while making it fair to the winning team having an extra player waiting to spawn in
    working as a team
    Dead and in pool players will have the ability to watch a full view camera of the map that easily shows everyone’s position. this will help for faster engagements. call outs and push suggestions will also be more of worth. the 3rd person camera gave the alive player an extra set of eyes but if the enemy didn’t show up on the screen then no one knows where that person is. stealth is great but in this game mode i feel there should be constant engagements because you only have one life. with a stronger shield and even teams this will force players to think of new ways to kill. there will be long tactical battles that will require than just rushing an area because of fast kill times.
    the tactical battle
    The stronger shields makes it so you can make a push to break a stalemate. it will no longer be two teams in hiding because of fast kill times. no grenades in the beginning ensures nobody gets a lucky nade off spawn. everything to pick up[ nades, weapons, power weapons] will be in an open space where you can get shot for trying to pick it up. this makes sure you enter a battle with something you earned rather than off spawn. power weapons with low ammo on 1 min respawn times to always have something to fight over and break pace. 5 min rounds to ensure both teams have enough time for the long battles.
    The rest
    everything else like the one flag in the middle seems like it could stay the same. the main goal of this new breakout is to ensure there are no stalemates. no camping players. no questionable trades and no uneven teams. the winning team will loose a player if the kill one on the opposite team but they will always have someone to rotate back in. it makes it fair for both teams while focusing more on team work rather than individual skill. i hope i explained the new spawn system well enough for you to understand so before anyone bashes it at least ask to clarify something i probably missed. i would like to see everyone’s thoughts and ideas on this and if anyone actually wants breakout to be something worth while. i also want to see other peoples suggestions and in the future would want 343i to see this as well in feedback for breakout

I feel the weapons should only respawn after each round.

My response to your bullet points:

  1. It wouldn’t be brrakout then and more or less slayer if you add shields. The point of no shields is to make you think before acting as you’ll cost your team if you blindly engage and move randomly. It then delays the game more as people will sit back to recharge their shields.
  2. Dislike the idea a lot. The point of not having a moveable camera is so that you can’t call out when you’re dead. It’d be frustrating and ruins the tension if a guy I killed is able to then given the ability to whatch me and tell his guys where I’m at. You’re supposed to make that one life count, you shouldn’t be rewarded the ability to see where everyone is.
  3. 2 minutes seems long enough to me, you’re forced to make decisions due to the low time, camping in stalemates gets you no where.
  4. Why? It’s a players fault if the team gets uneven cause they lost an engagement, again this rewards those who die which ruins game tension.
  5. Neutral on spawning with no grenades, not really anything to go off of for it, and as to power weapon spawns, breakout doesn’t need power weapons to begin with due to low ttk, however because you said you wanted shields I’m assuming this is why you bring up power weapons, but to be honest one minute resupplies is over kill and floods the map with power weapons.

Nix the neutral flag all together and change it to ARM/DEFUSE bombs with Attackers/Defenders like CSGO + COD. There needs to be a more interesting and forced outcome. Flag carries in breakout are corny, if I want to play CTF I’ll change the gametype and play CTF. There’s no other way to save Breakout.

  • breakout is breakout because of one life. you have to move before you think in arena aswell. shields or not you are punished for dumb pushes. and actually it would make the game faster because nobody would be tip toeing around the map. engagements would happen more often
  • the camera would not move and when you die you wouldn’t see where you died either. it would be a fixed camera that veiws the map from a brids eye view. both teams get this so its not like one team has it and the other doesn’t. its ment to promote movement over stalemates. remember if one dies the other team gets a bench warmer that also gets the same camera
  • maybe 5 mins is to long but i would like to eliminate ties. something ive seen alot with equal skilled players. atleast more time would give a chance for more pushes
  • it doesn’t reward those who die. take this for example team A kills 3 players of team B at the same exact time. this forces 3 players to bench and its left to a 1v1. the thing is team B has no benched players so when he dies the round is over but team A has 3 players left. team B would have to kill team A 1 by 1. it rewards the winning team with more chances to stay in the round.
  • currently there are already power weapons in breakout. plasma caster, hydra, shotgun etc. they all have low ammo exactly how i would like it in the new breakout except they should be on pads like in arena. have it spawn a min into the game if no one has one yet and if still no one won yet it would spawn again

i was thinking of arms in breakout it could work and i agree to an extent it just has to be the right settings

i say have them respawn ONLY if all the ammo has been used and no one won yet

One thing I can get behind is adding shields. The fast TTK usually turns it into a campfest. They should add shields and remove some of the cover so its harder to hide if you’re getting shot.

  1. Breakout isn’t just breakout because of one life, many games have one life elongation modes. The difference in halos version is you’re pretty much one shot kill and are given a timer of two minutes to either elimate the other team or cap the objective. Like I said, it may as well be slayer if you up the ttk as it’ll then play just like slayer. It still prolonged the game because people will take cover once shot, with the low ttk of breakout you don’t get that opportunity very often, upping the shields lets you get away from bad mistakes.
  2. Still rewards those who died, what’s stopping him from telling his team that they’re being chased and running curcles on the map? Just cuz both teams have the option to use it doesn’t mean it’s useful. Halo is about team play but it shouldn’t reward you to look at your opponents when dead.
  3. Ties only happen cuz players choose not to engage more often than not, the timer isn’t to blame. I see random team mates sit on corners all the time when its 1v1s rather than push out. Adding time would just prolong them to keep sitting on those corners.
  4. It does indeed reward those who die, you’d rather the losing team get a better chance even tho the better team gets punished for it, why should players sit out for outplaying others just to make the match more even? What rewards the winning team a better chance is keeping them all in that round with the 3 to 1 advantage, not putting some in timeout to where they could lose 1v1 scenarios.
  5. What’s the point of power weapons? Shotgun isn’t a power weapon anymore since it’s so common and like I said, with the already low ttk, weapon choice doesn’t really matter other than preference and distance from your target. Power weapons are better used in the longer ttk game modes.

I still ill just disagree in how you think this evolves breakout, it just turns into slayer elimination instead and from my view it still rewards the team that is losing and punishes those who took advantage.
