i got the phaeton cert a good while ago, and quickly used up all of them that came with the initial cert. since receiving that cert, I have opened at least 350k worth of gold req packs, along with many, many, many daily login and daily win packs. I would think that I would have gotten at least one since then, but I have not. Is the drop rate for them just really low, or what?

Well they are pretty rare as far as legendary items go. Are you talking about the base Phaeton or Phaeton Helios ? I have noticed with reqs that you have none left it seems that it’s harder to get them out of packs. For some reason the more of an item you have the easier it is to get them
They are elusive to say the least. I haven’t seen one in a req pack in months.
The drop rate for any of the Phateons is extremely low. You’d have a better chance of getting them from the Random Vehicles cards. That’s how I usually get mine.
I feel like they’ve dialed back Phaetons a lot as far as frequency. At one point I had like 25 of them, but I noticed that I rarely get them now even though I open packs like mad. It’s gotten pretty rare to pull it honestly, and the Helios variant, super rare I get those now. I never have more than 2 or 3 Helios. I do get pretty lucky and pull them with ultra rare random vehicle cards quite often though.
I’m sure 343 didn’t want 14 phaetons around the map, these suckers are super rare for me.
This is why I think we should be able to buy REQ cards directly instead of being subject to RNG and drop rates. Powerful REQs can be balanced by costing more REQ points.
This is why I don’t like the idea of certifications. If a req is already a rare drop, it just becomes even more scarce when its certification is also a rare drop. What’s the point of that?
FWIW, I am almost at level 148 and since day 1 I have accumulated a grand total 30 phaetons and 11 Helios’ (I don’t use them)… the helios’ must be the rarest req in the game and I have been on gold packs for close to a year…
It’s a bit dumb in my point of view, cause I get more Halo: CE Magnums. Tartaras’s Gavel and whispered truth 5x more frequent than receiving a regular phaeton, I mean they are powerful but they are also very vulnerable. like a crystal to say. it’s a rare thing to find but easily fragile. I think 343i should increase the drop rate a little so we don’t feel so cautious to use them

I may have had pretty good luck, but I’ve got both certifications and I would say I get one Phaeton or the other once every fifteen or twenty gold packs I open…
Some reqs seems to come and go in cycles from my observations. On any given day I’ll spend 100k on golds. During that spend window some items will show up again and again. I’ll get an ultra banshee in every 2 to 4 packs and maybe pick up 5 but then go on a Ubanshee drought for a week or two.
Of course I don’t get 5 phaetons during a buy stretch but I’ll get 2 or 3 in that 100k.

This is why I want platinum packs back. I got quite a few of both phaetons from them. It is one of the things I don’t get about H5. They introduce a new vehicle but hardly get to use it in multiplayer. It’s not on any arena maps and you are lucky to get to use one in warzone. They shouldn’t be so rare really. They are quite easily shot down, especially if the other team spawns a banshee ultra, which they will shortly after they see your phaeton. Unless you have a helios but even then it won’t take them long to take you out.

I know I’ve only gotten one Helios and one ONI wasp since I got the cert the day they dropped but I get Hannibal tanks like wildfire.
I find that i get more phaetons and wasps in the random vehicle rather than the actually reqs it would be nice for them to come a bit more often or to trade other reqs for them.

Yeah I honestly find the oni wasp to be stupidly rare for me I’ve gotten like 3 not including the ones they give you when you get the certification
they’re not that common because people would be spamming them every game. Simple as that.

Definitely feels that way… A while back I opened a hundred gold packs and wrote down what I got out of them, got zero ONI wasps and one single Hannibal Wasp. I’ve been thinking about doing it again sometime - though I doubt 343’s gonna be tweaking the rates on anything at this point in H5’s lifespan. Which means them ONI Wasps are going to continue to be almost a myth
