The essence of Halo Wars was a three star brute chieftain single handedly taking on an army or base and three Spartan tanks that would could gain veterancy to the point of making other teams quit.
I challenge anyone to think of anything else that encapsulates the gameplay and overall match of Halo Wars any better.
If Halo Wars 2 is to be loved like the first, and possibly more, this essence must remain. That feeling of OP’ness from using Spartan tanks and a Chieftain must remain, or at the least recreated through some other means. The Xbox One will allow for the unit limit to be much higher. It will allow for game modes possibly up to 6v6…
With that many units it can become harder to put focus on a singular leader unit or a couple of ace units but that is exactly the kind of gameplay I want creative assembly to focus on. Ace units complimented by other units. I hope you guys agree as much as I do. I love Halo Wars and am excited for Halo Wars 2, I just hope it will play similar.
P.S. Actually I can think of two other things but I will let you guys guess what those two things are.
Hint: Engineers
Spartan tanks were the only relevant vehicle late game. They have some things they need to balance because when the players were of equal skill the ONLY units that mattered were:
Scorpions
Wolverines
Warthogs
Banshees
Vampires
Arbiter
Gremlins
Spartans
Brutes
occasionally situation would dictate the need for flamethrowers or suicide grunts.
But the point is that the game needs some serious rebalancing. At a competitive level the game only had a need for the units I listed. Anti vehicle units were by and large a joke. The banshee was the best anti vehicle unit the covenant had. Hunters were too easily countered by the very thing they were designed to destroy (scorpions).
Oh and let’s buff the wraith tank for gods sake.
13 star cobras 3 shotting Scarabs. 13 star wolverines rek everything. Creating a Vulcan with a 13 star elephant and 13 star cobra
I liked Vultures. With that missile shot it had. I was able to down the 3 star brute. You also need to use the Jammer. Something a lot of people forget about as UNSC
Honestly. I think a game in the style of the Wargame series could work great for Halo Wars 2

You have no idea about the game you are talking about. Brutes and warthogs are “rush units”. Not very effectiv later in the game. Anti vehicle were a joke? I am sorry but the i lost you. Wolverines are the most effective units in the game bro… with only 6 of them you could hold off a hole army of aircraft! And what???.. hunters where bad against scorpions? If you would use them correctly they would be more effective then scarebs or other anti tanks unis like cobras. I agree on the last one… wraiths were really bad.
