The Energy Sword: Make it right.

As you all know, or should know, the Energy Sword first became usable in Halo 2. But there was something that made the Halo 2 swords different from every other one in the series, and that was it’s rarity, mysterious ability to float, and of course, it’s beauty.

When you saw a sword in Halo 2 you were thinking “-Yoink-! He’s charging me!”, or “I found the hidden sword! Lets kick -Yoink-!”, or in multiplayer, “That looks so freakin’ cool!”

When I first experienced Halo 2, and I saw the floating swords, especially in Ivory Tower there was a sort of mental magic that surrounded it. It was so beautifully placed, and had a majestic demeanor to it. I want that feel to return. As it is, I feel we see an inflation of swords and even less awe-inspiring placement to enhance the aesthetic of the weapon.

I don’t know why I posted this, but for some reason I felt it had to be said.

Show something too much it’s “special aura” starts dissipating.

There was also the ludicrously stupid melee lunge, ability to sword-cancel, and the fact that it had infinite ammo.

Yeah, I’ll take the less visually appealing but balanced sword over the visually appealing but on-par with a Star Road one any day…

Halo 2’s sword design was my favourite (it was beautiful) and in terms of function I think balance was… balanced with entertainment in Halo 3, if you know what I mean. The thing worked and it was fun to use. Combine the two and you’ve got a great sword, in my opinion. Halo 2’s sword was the best and definitely the most fun to use, but it was kinda broken and overpowered.

I’m not saying it needs to be over the top again. I’m saying it needs to be rare, and majestic again.

I get it. Nothing to do with the gameplay of the weapon, just the LOOK.

Maybe the Forerunner weapons should have the same “majesty” so to speak. The assembling thing was cool, but it only happened in the Campaign when you FIRST pick them up.

EXACTLY! There needs to be a feeling of as you put it, “majesty”, on weapons like this. The assembling thing was great for the first time through, disappointing when it never happened again.

Nice simile.

Different colored swords would be pretty awesome

That’s due to a broader weapon sandbox. It still wrecks up close, as intended.

Shotgun always beats it, if timing is right

The Giga-Hammer beats it most of the time too.
