The Enemy

Who do you think the enemy is, especially after reading Primordium? Do you think its Precursors or Forerunners? For me, it’s a mixed bag, the books seem to be nodding towards the Precursors (Forerunner Saga anyway), but in Anniversary’s The Maw terminal, its really hinted that we Humans will prefer the Flood, then the Didact’s crest for a split second. What do you think?

After reading primordium, I really believe we will encounter flood, under the influence of a gravemind(s) and the composer, and I also believe we will encounter guilty spark (if we can still call him that) in some way

what if the humans, forrunners and cov. teamed up to kill the flood and precursors(not sure what the are called but i think they might be the baddies because in the very end of concept art vid. a monster thing scream and flashed across the screen

Precursors. I want the enemy to be as terrifying as the Flood were in CE. And I want them to retain this scare factor throughout the series, unlike Halo 2 and 3.

That’s harder to achieve than you think. The reason the Flood were scary in Combat Evolved is because we didn’t know anything about it. We know a lot about them now, so 343 would have to overhaul the Flood in a big way.

Heck, why not both? Precursors are the new enemy, and the Forerunners (and Flood!) get an overhaul. Badaboom.

Well, The Precursors (or this Precursor thing that may be some type of Gravemind, based upon Precursors, though that is definitely subjective) are The Flood essentially

On page 364, The Precursor is clearly speaking on behalf of the flood (choosing not to infect humans and all)

(Pg. 365 Primordium)
“‘The last of this kind’ … ‘We are the Flood. There is no difference…’”

I’m also leaning away from the Foreunners, again from page 364, it seems that this early Flood simply won’t allow the survival of the Foreunners, hence they’d be gone. Plus that could really drop plotholes from even a simply mistake in their actions at some point down the road.

So, since the Covies are essentially gone as “The Covenant,” they would have to be axillary enemies as they no longer have clear coordination (including the Elites as seen in Halo: Glasslands), leaving just the Flood, or something new.

I would wager both. 343 could easily retool the Flood, since their form is sort of subjective anyways. But, I also think there will be new enemies, because the end of Primordium is clearly setting a stage on the Halo Installation 07 (crazy fog atmosphere and ONI speculation as such for little reason in the plot of the book needing such). And since the Librarian apparently planned on having lots of species on said installation, badda-bing, new enemies that don’t destroy the lore, but could spice up Halo 4’s combat cycle.

Plus, from the concept art shown at E3 this year…

[The poster of the ship @1:17] <–I almost wonder if that timing is coincidence or not!

And the revelation the Spark has taken over the ship at the end of Primordium, we have another potential link…

I believe the place Spark speaks of on page 379 MUST be Installation 07 (why else do all that setting work in explaining things about it?), and with said ship he can go to Installation 07, and our poster connects the dots.

I think all the Precursors want is revenge against the Forerunners. Maybe that’s why they told the Pre-Human’s about the cure / weakness of the flood.
