This thread is sort of meant to discuss the nature of the enemies in Halo 4.
So far three new enemy types have been revealed. Those are:
Promethean Crawlers: a sort of quadrupedal “Defense AI” which seem to act sort of like grunts, in that they attack in groups, and tend to be relatively easy kills (one-two shots)
Promethean Watchers: Basically a little attack butterfly, these enemies are launched from Promethean Knights, and act as air distractions. Similar to Covenant drones, they have the ability to capture and return thrown grenades, and act as fire support.
Promethean Knights: These mobs are similar in function to Sangheili. They are equipped with at least two types of weapons (The Scattershot and Lightrifle) According to Cortana they are inorganic, and they have the ability to launch Promethean Watchers. They are possibly holographic or “hard-light”, given their teleportation ability as well as the animation when they die.
Prometheans are a specific sect of the Warrior-Servant class. They were highly regarded, and their most prominent member was the Didact whose symbol was shown at the end of the gameplay video. Most, if not all, of the Didact’s children were Promethean warriors, who perished while fighting humanity in the Forerunner Human war.
If we assume that the ominous voice speaking towards the end of the trailer is that of the Didact, then the revenge he is speaking of may pertain to humanity withholding the information about how to cure the Flood (again during the Forerunner Human War) or the deaths of his children.
However given that the Didact had never showed outright hatred towards humanity, he had in fact begun to see them as possible equals towards the end of the most recent book, it is unlikely that he is the main enemy.
Another interesting thing is that Forerunners have never been seen wearing such armor, or having faces like the one in the trailer. And the giant ball which appears to have spawned the “AIs” is circular, something which goes completely against Forerunner design concepts (in most cases). The orange colors also don’t match the traditional blue hues of Forerunner constructs.
Please add any story related facts and arguments so we can attempt to figure out who and what was in that absolutely stunning trailer.
