The End of Team Slayer?

According to the latest bulletin, Team Slayer will soon undergo some major changes, including a move to team-based CSR, as well as regular CSR/TrueSkill resets.

Beyond these alterations, it’s possible that other gametypes may be added to the playlist.

Personally, I strongly prefer having a dedicated 4v4 slayer playlist but suspect 343 is grooming Team Slayer to become Small Team Battle or Throwdown Lite, mixing slayer and objective types.

Does it matter to you? What would you like to see happen?

> As I mentioned earlier, I sometimes have the pleasure of working on projects from beginning to end. Since the conclusion of the Halo 4 Global Championship, one of the things that we’ve been working on is the Team Slayer CSR program that I’ve been detailing over the past few weeks. In conjunction with designers such as Josh Menke and Quinn DelHoyo, we’ve been developing a program that highlights and showcases the top-ranked players in the Team Slayer playlist. We’re planning on launching this program within the next month or so, and we’ve got some new details about the update:
>
> • Team Slayer will be moved to a team-based CSR rather than individual when the program launches
> • Top players will be able to regularly see where they stand against other players on Halo Waypoint
> • Team Slayer will see a CSR reset when the program launches in order to have all players start on a level playing field, and also to accommodate the update to the CSR format
> • Moving forward, the Team Slayer playlist will see predictable CSR resets as we start new periods
>
> We’ll also be evaluating other playlist details (voting options, map / game type offerings, and more) as we look to optimize this playlist and program. We’re really excited to discover which players will step up and prove themselves in the Team Slayer playlist. Be on the lookout for more details and the launch date in upcoming Bulletins.

I think 343i just meant different slayer game types that aren’t Action Sack related.

Possibly, but I don’t think so. The changes they announced were made because they wanted to “highlight and showcase the top-ranked players.” Any changes or additions they make as a result would be to make the playlist more appealing to competitive players. And by “competitive players,” I don’t necessarily mean “pro players”; I mean any player who plays skillfully and to win.

Perhaps I’m reading too much into it but, in my experience, 343 seldom does anything in a straightforward manner. There’s often a gotcha or twist.

What’s going around in my head is BTB (in its current state) provides the model and Ghostayame’s retirement from Throwdown, as well as the declining population, and the desire to bring back objective games from rotational playlist purgatory, provide the impetus.

Time will tell.

That aside, let me rephrase my question. Would you like to see Team Slayer altered to include objective gametypes?

I see it as them trying to add replay value to Team Slayer. Although a cool idea. it is again a little to late. I would like to see what would happen if Team slayer was replaced by the legendary BR game type. No Nonsence weapons on map.

I stopped playing Team Slayer LONG ago just because I was always stuck with teammates who didn’t know how to play.

The population would crash.

Infinity fans are most of what’s left.

While you’re welcome to continue the discussion, objective game types will not be added to Team Slayer. It will remain a slayer-only experience.

Speaking of, regicide. It is more akin to a slayer variant than objective if you ask me.

I do like Regicide and would like to see it promoted more, even if coordinated teams can utterly curbstomp people in it.

I have to agree with Erick here. Of all the ‘objective’ types, this is the least of them. It’s definitely more about slaying, whether that’s the king or another opponent.

I’d LOVE to see Regicide come to Team Slayer.
