I want to like this game, I really do…however this game is unplayable from a game play aspect. Halo attracted a certain type of audience, when you change the game so drastically that a large portion of the audience no longer likes the game then you are clearly doing something wrong. Sure some people like this version of Halo, but you have to understand that this is not what most people expect from a Halo, this game is a different and foreign experience and that gives us the right to complain. We didnt buy Halo 5 to play a watered down version of COD we bought it to play Halo, and when 343 as a developer cant even give us that then why should we be so goody goody with them?
343 is catering to the wrong crowd and as a result Halo has fallen apart. I am not sure if I will even get the next title, and honestly I never thought I would say that. 343 ruined many peoples hopes and experiences and have provided a bad name to themselves. My hopes are low for the next Halo and Im sure many others feel the same way.
Before you start flaming me I would like to ask you all this question, how would you respond if you saw something you deeply cared about fall apart right in front of your eyes?
Have my own set of predictions in my head about how this thread will unfold. Can’t wait to see how and if they come true.
Let’s see…first thing is probably going to be some guy telling you how it’s possible for veterans to like Halo 5 and how your opinion as a veteran doesn’t hold more weight. Then some other guy will be unnecessarily brash and moan about nostalgic haters ruining the community or some -Yoink- like that. Then after that you’ll have some Halo 2 kid agreeing wholeheartedly and going on a tirade about how 343i sucks and then spout a bunch of things irrelevant to the topic like how Battle Rifle starts need to come back.Let’s watch.

Good thing 343 didn’t kill the population of the MCC by having a broken launch. Oh wait, they did!!

At least the game play was still recognizable within the series. H5 looks nothing like Halo.

I still play mcc from time to time and still find games. I play action sack, btb and H2… I don’t need a game to have some huge population to play it.

I don’t play MCC anymore. The low population is completely fine because the ranking system hardly effects finding a match unlike Halo 5 where if you are Diamond/Onyx match search times could be 20+ minutes.

Plenty of players here praise reach and it had sprint, load outs and armor abilities, made by bungie and plenty consider it a Halo game. H5 isn’t to far from Reach really.

and that is where you are wrong. Halo 5 resembles a halo, just an evolved one. It has the same TYPE of arena gameplay just faster paced and wth Spartan abilities. I played all of the old halos especially 3 and I can tell you now it feels similar. Dont go calling me a 343 fan by because I am far from it but I do however like how the game turned out on a hole and I would like to see how they take the direction that they are heading further. Just maybe a little less in the direction than halo 4 took.
I recommend you play Halo 2 anniversary on MCC. There are issues with that game, but it is still a Halo game and matchmaking intermission improved a lot. It is playable now. I am having better time with MCC.
One thing about Halo 4 was we were clear that 343 chose certain way. But Halo 5 is bit vague.

Sprint was an option in Reach. Maps were not completely designed around sprint.

Wut?
I’m sure that Bungie considered all abilities into the design of their maps. You statement is nonsense.

Yet all abilities doesn’t mean just sprint. The maps were generally bigger than some maps in Halo 2 and 3 like Midship, Lockout, or Guardian, but they weren’t really much bigger than The Pit, Construct, Ivory Tower, Ascension, or Sanctuary (the latter 3 being actually remade to scale in the game). The maps had to be considered for the abilities, but because the abilities were optional, they had to consider the maps being made for players without certain abilities. It’s pretty hard to design maps solely for sprint when you know that not everyone was going to pick sprint. To design a map completely for sprint, then you would end up making it so people choose sprint over any other abilities all the time. While sprint was the most used armor ability, I attribute that more to the movement speed being lowered than I do to map design.

Many maps could be played without needing abilities. The only one I can remember needing sprint or jet pack was Sword base, but that map was terrible in the first place.

So some how a game that had armor abilities and a sprint mechanic didn’t have maps designed around them but another game that has basically the same thing has maps designed around them specifically? To me reach and H5 have good and bad maps. The only maps made slightly bigger were truth and regret… all other h5 maps are pretty small. Look at the btb map antifreeze it plays incredibly small so does recurve. The majority if not all of the reach btb maps were bigger than h5 btb maps.

Halo Reach is was hardly Halo, bloom and the AA’s killed it. Of course H5 isn’t too far from Reach, H5 is continuing nu-Halo.

Watch side by side gameplay of H3 and H5. Watch side by side gameplay of any Halo from CE to 3 next to H5 and tell it looks the same. H5 looks closest to H4 and Reach.
What the hell is evolved supposed to mean? Throwing needless crap into the game and hoping it sticks? Making the games play completely different from each other?
