Last night my Elite controller was delivered, and though I didn’t have time to give it a thorough workout I can say that it’d definitely the finest controller I’ve ever used! It’s weight, smooth action and grips are very well designed and thought out, and the extra paddles and customization are great, and even straight out of the box I was able to tell that it’s aiming precision is going to raise my score!
I do have some questions however: It comes with batteries and a charging cable which is quite unlike the original Xbox One controller, as it came with batteries only. I had to purchase a USB charging cable along with a NiCad pack. Now I don’t believe things have changed so much as to allow regular batteries to be charged, and one cannot use the cable with nothing in the battery compartment, so what’s the point in including this cable. I’m sure Microsoft has a NiCad pack that fits this controller just as the original controller has, so the only other things it could possible be for is to be able to plug it in to a Win 10 USB port so that it can be used to control Streamed Xbox games on one’s PC, but then again I suspect one would have to buy a NiCad pack anyway. I certainly won’t use the cable for anything that might risk burning out such an expensive controller without first finding out exactly what its purpose is and is not! So I’d appreciate hearing back from any Elite owners before using this cable!
Also, I was told or read somewhere that using the Elite enables one to use their favored headphones by only having to plug them into the Xbox One’s USB port, negating the need to use headphones with a 3.5 port. I was really looking forward to this, as I’d get to use my expensive headphones with mic that up till now could only be used on my PC, and I wouldn’t need to untangle the separate line with the Jack that had always been necessary before. Furthermore, I wouldn’t need to by an attachment like I did for the original controller to provide and control the mixing of chat and ambient sound. Well it seems that the Jack is now available right out of the box, but my USB only headphones still cannot be used!
What’s the story here? Can I use the USB only headphones as promised at all? If so how? What accessories must I buy to make their use possible if at all? And is there a compatible line to use the Elite on my computer to control Streamed games, or can this only be accomplished by using the wireless USB converter? And what’s the story regarding the charging cable as mentioned above. What must I buy now to enable NiCad’s?
As much as I like this controller, I hate it’s instruction manual. It tells me nothing I couldn’t figure out on my own, but leaves me hanging for important questions like I’ve asked here!
