To each their own
I say Grapple - Repulsor - Threat Detector - Drop Shield/Thruster
Obviously, the last two are better than none, but I’d rather have one of the first three.

I think that would be a good addition. Especially only for the first few seconds. If your team decides to cluster to take advantage of the damage, they risk rocket/grenade kills.
I agree that most people probably aren’t utilising the full shield. Each panel can absorb 1-2 shots usually.
100% agree. Different item for different use cases. The Drop Wall is not designed to be deployed as a last second saver as clearly made obvious by the deploy time. By the time someone shoots the base of a Drop Wall they have put themselves at a disadvantage usually because you have time to get one or two shots in while they are doing that.
I wouldn’t say low tier. Everyone uses the Grapple and Repulsor because they are more fun to use and you can do some crazy things with them. The Drop Wall is just a practical item in general. I would also say the thrusters are some what useless unless you are doing melee in close quarter combat. Especially with the Plasma Sword. It isn’t too bad for a last second dash behind a corner but I’d say latency beats that most times and you die as you get into cover. Not my favourite anyway.
I think it depends on game type but I would generally agree. First two are just too much fun. I would put Drop Shield with the Threat Detector or even slightly above for me.
I think overall though people just haven’t had enough time with the wall to utilise it. It all comes down to preference and practice in the end and how much time you are willing to spend learning.
It so is not useless, that thing saves my life all the time and it blocks swords and rockets aswell. It also saves others and myself from me being picked off with a sniper or BR all the time.
If you are using this mid fight you’re using it wrong, you’ve got to set it up in lanes where you know a player is coming before they’re shooting at you.
I would divide the tiers as such:
Tier 1: Grapple / Repulsor due to both being very flexible equipment.
Tier 2: threat sensor / drop wall / thruster.
I think tier 2 is good but less flexible in usage.
Threat sensor - I used to think threat sensor was worthless until getting a chance to get used to it in campaign, now I feel it grants a huge advantage if utilized in medium range duels as it forces opponent to change cover / keep head down / make effort to break sensor.
Dropwall - strafe between panels and it soaks a lot more hits and wins you 1v1s in ranked hard. I think the deployment could use a slight speed buff.
Thruster - very flexible but not quite as good as repulsor / grapple as is two dimensional movement boost. However, I prefer it for grav hammer as I find it easier to use for closing the gap than the grapple. Is nasty with any close quarter weapons and can sometimes buy you an extra second in BR duels.
The good news is that the dev team can tune up underperforming equipment to make it better by looking at number of uses / activation speed / strength of effect (thruster range / wall panel health / sensor AoE)
Strongly recommend this. They also deploy too slowly. Often ill throw them and my shield will get wiped before the drop wall even launches from my hand, often deploying after I’m already dead as almost a reminder not to use them…
