Does anyone have any idea what it is? From what I gather it seems like it can be compared to our internet. But I was curious if anyone knew how it came to be? It seems pretty ambiguous on the info and I had a few ideas…
Basicly it is comparable to our internet but infinatly better.
I dont think it has anything to do with the Mantle, the Mantle seems to be the Code/Religion that most if not all Forerunners live by.
As for origins? I can only speculate but likely to be that same way as our internet then adopted on a massive scale, so much so that the forerunner are lost with out it. (much like we are now lol)

Yeah, that’s what I figured, and as for the Mantle, Forerunners tried to steal it from humans which is why the flood in the end targeted them.
The only reason I’m curious is because if it is part of it then Humans might have a guarantee to access it.
From the Primordium book, it seems to suggest the mantle not just an ideal, but to have a physical aspect that the Precursors seemed to be able to change since it’s supposedly effects physical life.

The Mantle is an Ideal the Forerunners forced themselves into thinking was given to them as justification for how they act. They didn’t take it from anybody. And their are no human threads in the Domain nor can they access it.
It’s basically a neural network that acts as a communications and storage medium, only accessible by the higher castes within the Forerunner Ecumene. It is unknown whether mechanical devices can access this network, and it is also unknown whether it is an evolutionary trait or one induced by surgery out of practicality.
In layman’s terms, it’s a mental e-mail network available to the super-rich and powerful. But don’t expect to download apps off of it.
The Mantle was established by the Precursors. They created the Flood to test the the species they deemed potentially worthy as their successors. Originally, it was meant to be the Forerunners. However, The Forerunners failed the test without even facing The Flood, and thus, The Precursors shifted their focus to Humanity. Humanity then faced the Flood and passed the Precursors test. However, the Forerunners denied Humanity’s claims to be the rightful heirs to the Mantle and thus the Human-Forerunner War began. The Precursors were angered by the Forerunners and thus, sent the Flood to eradicate them. The Forerunners did not force themselves to believe in The Mantle as a religion. It was already there, again, established by the Precursors.
