hey all fellow Spartans and lord nerdos like myself … In Halo 5 we learn that the domain is alive and well curing rampancy and beginning reclamation. This is a little confusing to me because last i knew the domain was destroyed during the firing of the Halo array at the send of silentium. per the novel. the domain was actually the Organon and being that it was partially organic it would be destroyed in the firing. In halo 4 we thought we were accessing the domain but according to Cortana the terminals were “caught in a loop” and we couldn’t access it.So i guess my question is … was there another explanation to how the domain survived or was it not really the Organon the whole time and the Gravemind was just bring horror to the librarian before she died.If anyone knows where in the fiction this is explained please let me know … thanks guys
So your argument is completely correct. Silentum does tell that not only the Domain but everything Precursor was destroyed with the activation of the Halo Array. I have a theory of why the Domain still remains: The majority of the domain has been destroyed and only that part which the Forerunners have created or influenced remained. Maybe that is why when you are inside the Domain with blue team, everything looks empty and desolated except for the Forerunners constructs in which you play. And as a Halo fan I like this answer more than just 343 being incoherent with themselves
Chapas might have a point here…
this is why Cortana refers to it as the “Forerunners Domain”
I thought that some parts/pieces of the Domain survived the Halo firings by being on shield worlds. And i figured that if it’s alive or somewhat organic, that it would naturally try to heal and reform itself to its pre-Halo firing status.
It does also state (sorry, can’t remember where) that the Domain only reveals information that a person already has some information about. So if Cortana came across the Domain because of the Forerunner Genesis planet, then she assumes its Forerunner, and without the knowledge of it being Precursor, the Domain “allows” or doesn’t correct her assumption.
But maybe I’m wrong.
I have been wondering the same thing since playing the campaign.
My only thought was that maybe Genesis was like the Ark, a place outside the galaxy and the firing range of the Halos with a connection to the Domain. In case of failure to connect with the Organon then it would act as a backup for a portion of the knowledge so the Forerunners wouldn’t be completely without the Domain. Kind of like an external hard drive. But I’m not sure how the Didacts ship would connect but not the Didact’s armor and cryptum.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but when the Didact was sealed in his cryptum, the Librarian had hoped that through reflection and study in the Domain he would see the error of his ways and help humanity claim the Mantle of Responsibility when the time came. But when the Halos were fired it destroyed the Domain (except not, apparently) which left the Didact with his own thoughts for 100,000 years.
Cortana fixed the domain. If you collect all the intel in 5 a forerunner builder explains it. He is still inside what was once the corrupted domain. Through touching the domain Cortana fixed her rampancy and was able to fix what ever was wrong with the domain. She doesn’t understand that genesis is precursor and assumes its forerunner. The builder spoke of bastion still living and so there may be other forerunners alive as well. If awoken they would not want Cortana to attain the mantle.
With the guardians at her will and the activation index Cortana could end humanity because she knows the location of the halo arrays. What I wonder is since the forerunners once composed couldn’t retain their physical nature would they have to do the same to Cortana to stop her? We first see the domain in requiem and Cortana did talk to the library in halo 4. As well as chief and Halsey. The Janis key may hold the answer on where to locate such a device.
Also Cortana for whatever reason wanted John and blue team in a cryptum? Yet to what end? Would she try to compose them? The ur didact tried to compose himself and failed because of the same gene song the librarian put into human kind. Chief was the only one so I wonder if Cortana actually wants to be mortal. Also they still have flood on the halo rings…

Your right, But how this happened is still a mystery to us Lore fans
My thoughts are that first of all Maybe the precursors could have some hand in this, I don’t know how but it just makes since seeing as how they built the domain. I have no evidence but it just could make for some interesting plot twist in the future.
Another option is that the Domain is open again, but only a portion that was part of some project to secretly protect or serve as way to gather information needed to fight the flood. The Builders did do some sneaky stuff with there power.
The Ur-Didact could have influenced what was left of the Domains inputs when he awoke, making the network reconnect what was make only by the forerunners like you all say.
In the end its crazy stuff and I think there is, or should be a novel being written right about now to explain all these things.

Pretty sure Cortana intends to light the rings. There was a line spoken by Cortana in 5 to Osiris I believe, something like “When I wake [Blue Team] in 100,000 years…” Coincidentally the same amount of time the ur-Didact was in his cryptum. I think she just wanted to protect them, the Spartan 2’s. Halsey’s Spartan 2’s. HER Spartan 2’s.

You should confirm the quote, if she says as much years as the didact it might be the final proof that she wants to activate all the rings and reset all the galaxy. This makes her plan not so interesting, as before it was worth of philosophical and moral analysis: the value of freedom, the theme of bellum omnium contra omnes or a despotic and absolute power that rules all, the end of ageing, sickness and suffering at the price of liberty…
Near as I can tell most of the Domain is suspended in slipspace, with anchors, or perhaps more accurately projectors existing in normal space time. My interpretation of the Forerunner intel is that Bastion was the original location of the major anchor / projector known to the Forerunners. The Forerunners used a “nearly impossible act of reconciliation”, to move Bastion out of the range of the Halo array, before it was hit. Thanks to FTL, the quirks of relativity, and Reconciliation technology this is infact possible, even though it would require the Forerunners to move into a reference frame that in a manner of speaking existed in the past, and even though such a technique defies normal causality (not unlike the activation of the Halo array itself did). Time travel like phenomenon is the logical consequence of reconciliation, relativity, and FTL travel, it almost makes you wonder; what was filial devotion talking about?
I’m with Viper 22x, the domain seems to be healing or reconstituting. It possible the domain is a kind of hive mind of all sentient life and it has reformed as new species touched foreigner artifacts and tried to access it, resulting in these new connection growing into a new domain.

It’s weird how it all comes together. Cortana wants to protect spartans like Halsey did on Onyx like Librarian wanted to protect Didact.
Since the little breakdown in halo 4 Cortana is more like Halsey than ever before. Even Halsey mentions to Locke something about her origins and how dangerous she might be with all that power. Also I find it ironic that Cortana suddenly hates Halsey.
It could be a false Domain…

I like this theory, more so because the domain in H5 is referenced as the “forerunner domain”
Precursors may have hid “seeds” in the dark space around the galaxy. From these seeds Domain could have grown back.
I’m also wondering if Domain and Flood are against each other or perhaps even allies. You know both were created by precursors and Domains objective and purpose is. What does it really want?

So what about what this guy said? I haven’t collected much of intel yet so don’t know it all. Very interesting no matter what.
This clears allot up
