Go to Halo 4 Intel>Weapons>DMR it’s intended range is not only long range like people on here seem to claim it’s intended to be used at Medium-long range.
You know since people really seem to like ignoring this fact when they complain about the DMR I thought I’d just point this fact out to everyone.
So no the Battle rifle should not beat the DMR at medium range they should have an EQUAL chance of killing each other at medium range.
While the DMR wins at long range, and the BR wins out over the DMR at close range same applies to the carbine this is how BR vs DMR should play out.
Disclaimer: This isn’t intended to be a thread to discuss whether or not the DMR is OP or not OP thread as I can admit that it is in it’s current state so don’t bring it up.
> So no the Battle rifle should not beat the DMR at medium range they should have an EQUAL chance of killing each other at medium range.
So the DMR and BR should be equal at medium range but the DMR should also be better at long range on top of that?
The game also already has a medium-long range weapon, it’s called the Lightrifle.
And just because it was intended that way means that way is balanced?
Finally, read.

You’re right. The DMR was intended for use at medium to long range.
and it excels at that.
and at medium range.
And at short range.
RATE. OF. FIRE. IS. TOO. FAST.
Kills everything else too quickly for the sandbox, makes all other primaries useless blah blah blah this argument is so tired man.

This…^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I feel as if I am forced to use the DMR in order to better compete, although I really like response/feel of the BR much better.
My personal opinion on the matter is, DMR should have less aim assist than BR. Skill progression should be AR=>BR=>DMR. Just like BR has a skill curve that when used incorrectly makes it weaker than AR but used correctly makes it stronger, DMR should be weaker than the BR in the hands of someone less skilled and more powerful when in the hands of a pro player.
> So the DMR and BR should be equal at medium range but the DMR should also be better at long range on top of that?
Yes they should as both of them are intended to be used at Medium ranges so they should have an equal chance of killing each other and the BR will still win out at close range and the DMR wins at long range.
Everything works as they were intended to work.
> The game also already has a medium-long range weapon, it’s called the Lightrifle.
The Light rifle isn’t intended to be used at medium range are it wouldn’t have no hitscan and it’s damage increase when scoped there’s no reason there can’t be more then one regardless.
> And just because it was intended that way means that way is balanced?
Not right now it isn’t but with a reduction in aim assist and a ROF nerf making the DMR less easy to use they will be balanced out with each other.
> Finally, read.
Nothing I haven’t seen before I realise that the DMR is OP in it’s current state and could use a slight nerf like I suggested earlier.
Except it’s better than the BR in medium range…
The BR is MEANT for medium range…
And that’s ignoring the fact that the DMR can be used in EVERY scenario with little skill requirement.
C’mon, it’s not that hard. You think competitive settings use BR starts for no reason?
The DMR is worse than overpowered, it’s boring.

Okay it looks I like need to add this to the OP since people are clearly misinterpreting the point of this thread.
This isn’t a thread to discuss is OP or not OP thread as I can admit that it currently due to the way it dominates the sandbox currently and it could do with a nerf in aim assist/ROF.
So that it allows for a balanced sandbox while still being able to compete at it’s intended range and makes it harder to use at the same time.

I would suggest making the reticule larger when unscoped, and making the RoF the same as the BR. This way, it doesn’t win those short to medium range battles because of the larger reticule spreading the bullets, but it can still hold it’s place as the long range champ when scoped.
Actually, I just want the thing to develop testicular cancer and die, but that’s not an option.
It’s an inanimate object.
And inanimate objects can’t develop cancer.
*sigh…
Dmr is good all ranges. Overpowering at long ranges. The LR can’t match up to it, so nothing else can but another dmr. Which makes everyone want to use the Dmr.
It kills too fast in general. It has the most magnetism. It’s too good.
I’m not sure what’s the point of this thread; most peeps still want it nerfed.

It still shouldn’t be equal with the BR at medium range. Gameplay wise, it being good in medium range still breaks the sandbox. Making the BR harder to use, while also making it a four shot would help a lot.
Having a weapon that is decent in all ranges is fine, it just can’t be easy to use like the DMR currently is.
> Disclaimer: This isn’t intended to be a thread to discuss whether or not the DMR is OP or not OP thread as I can admit that it is in it’s current state so don’t bring it up.
Then what the -Yoink- is the point of this thread? lol

It doesn’t break the sandbox as long as it has areas weaknesses which would be in short range.
I think thats a good idea as well but then that could render the automatics useless and the carbine would be even more worthless then it is now.
Too be honest I think the perfect solution is buffing all weapons slightly so that they are on par the DMR because if you only buff the rifles then the other weapons sufer.
Along with a nerf in bullet magnetism/aim assist across the board as it’s pretty high in this game as things stand now.
Rather then opting for slower kill times as the sandbox is pretty well balanced currently excluding what has been mentioned already.
> Then what the -Yoink!- is the point of this thread? lol
To inform the people of the DMR’s intended range hence the title.
“So no the Battle rifle should not beat the DMR at medium range they should have an EQUAL chance of killing each other at medium range”.
I hate to discredit someone’s post based on one sentence but your post is based on the weapon description someone somewhat arbitrarily typed up.
The above quote is ridiculous.
Why even have the BR at that point? Why have anything other than the DMR?
Sigh.
It should not be as strong as it is in CQC, and the best way to solve that is to give it a reasonably severe killtime nerf (damage/rof).
“Too be honest I think the perfect solution is buffing all weapons slightly so that they are on par the DMR because if you only buff the rifles then the other weapons sufer”.
OR, we could nerf the DMR, since you also said that the rest of the weapons were pretty well balanced. With the low health and shield regen, buffing all weapons to the DMR’s level would be a total joke.
I use the lightrifle as my primary. It’s pretty challenging to really dominate a match with it compared to the DMR, and so it’s usage requires a lot more skill and strategy (like getting the first two shots and not missing). It’s a much more rewarding weapon.
In terms of it being long to medium range, at least in my experiences, I’ve been able to dominate DMR users with the BR in medium range because it’s pretty easy to land your shots with the BR.
To say the DMR dominates in close range is just being dramatic. An AR could even beat the DMR in close range, so.
Best way to nerf it is to slow the rate of fire by a little bit, or, and this is a gamble as it could potentially make the DMR useless, make it a 6sk

It was typed by a game designer and the same thing was stated for the Reach DMR it’s pretty clear what there inetended range is here.
Because the Battle Rifle would give you an edge at close range and being dominant at medium range and it would be the favorite weapon for small maps which favor close range combat.
> It should not be as strong as it is in CQC, and the best way to solve that is to give it a reasonably severe killtime nerf (damage/rof).
This is an overexaggeration it does not need a severe nerf or a damage nerf the only reason it is superior to the BR is because of it’s faster ROF.
The only nerf the DMR needs is a ROF that is on slightlty lower then the BR and a reduction in aim assist to make it harder to use.
> OR, we could nerf the DMR, since you also said that the rest of the weapons were pretty well balanced. With the low health and shield regen, buffing all weapons to the DMR’s level would be a total joke.
I honestly don’t really care either way my personal preference is faster kill times.

Obviously it is something you haven’t seen before otherwise you would realize THE LIGHTRIFLE IS HITSCAN.
Yet again, I reiterate, READ.
If the DMR’s purpose is long range, then there is no point in even having it in halo. There are already several weapons that already fill that niche.
Theyre called sniper rifles.

Um, maybe I’m wrong, but I could’ve sworn the lightrifle wasn’t hitscan
