The DMR was supposed to be balanced against the BR. It isn’t.
The BR fires in three round bursts, each one of the three adds to the damage done. The DMR fires one round that does slightly less damage than the BR’s three hits.
The problem is that the DMR fires too fast that it renders this difference in damage insignificant. The BR can get maybe 1-2 bursts of in a second. The DMR when appropriately spammed can get out 3-4.
I keep seeing people use DMRs on maps where the BR SHOULD have been the dominant weapon. Maps like Adrift, Abandon, and Haven would be ideal maps for use with the BR, but people constantly SPAM the DMR on these close quarters maps because it fires faster.
The DMR is a longer range weapon, not an SMG. You get a red reticle (Aim assist, bullet magnetism, etc.) From a farther range than the BR. 343 said that if two players were to get within range of each others weapons, one having a DMR, and the other having a BR, the BR should win against the DMR. If the BR player is in range of the DMR player, but the DMR player is too far away for the BR player to get a lock on (red reticle), the DMR should win.
Maps like Complex, Ragnarok, and Longbow would be ideal for the DMR due to its effectiveness at longer ranges. Not maps where the longest sight line is down a narrow hall way.
I understand your distress about this weapon and i don’t mean to discredit you or insult you but this topic has been beaten to death numerous times over…

Like above said, I too understand your frustration but this topic is way over talked about. Your voice has been heard as have many others, it will be unwise for 343 to change it on the TU.
Maybe your just bad with the BR. (no offense) But I usually own people that use DMRs with the BR. Its situational. Every rifle I would take for another in different situations. The BR is perfect for midrange shooting while the DMR is perfect for long range. The Carbine is a perfect up close and personal headshot buster and the Lightrifle is truly a hybrid between the DMR and BR but with a nasty powerful round.
You really have to know when to use the right gun in the right situation. Thats really all it is. If you learn that you can double your k/d in this game.

No. Aside from some auto aim issues and maybe some flinch reduction pretty much everything else should be tweaked first.
Why alter the rest of the loadout sandbox around one weapon? Wouldn’t it be easier to just nerf the DMR? Of course it would be easier, but that does no make it right thing to do. The DMR is a shining example of what a primary could be. It is right in the butter zone of kill times as well as in capability.
Think of it as simply making your favorite primary that much better. Aside from the scoped LR(unscoped could use work if the others get changes) pretty much all the other loadout weapons could use some work(auto weapons included).
For the record my favorite weapon is the Light Rifle.

No insults taken. I just never saw, or heard anybody mention this before, and I was hoping to see if there was any plans to make changes to the weapons. I see more of the “no AAs in MM pl0x” threads than any other. This topic may have been beaten to death. That one was lined up before a firing squad.

The DMR fires too fast. Reduce the fire rate to make it balanced with the BR. Leave everything else the way it is. The DMR is the problem here. Not the light rifle. Good gun BTW. Er… Laser thing…
> After DMR is fixed, another weapon will be declared overpowered. In my opinion, the loadout system and armor abilities need to be rid of in Halo 5.
I kind of agree with you. Maybe go back to equipment like in Halo 3. They need to keep sprint though. Halo has been long over due for a sprint mechanic.

I know what you mean by the “right situation”, but the amount of people DMR spamming on Adrift is ridiculous. That map would be perfect for the BR, if the DMR was balanced like they said it would be.
Yes, this topic has been beaten to death but it needs to be. I mastered the DMR and I really don’t use it anymore but that’s all anyone else uses. It’s really dumb when you get beat close range by a dmr going up against an automatic weapon. Changing the damage will get everyone mad. Idk how they can fix it but they need to.

Exactly. The DMR is a ranged weapon. It is a balancing issue if it is able to beat the other weapons in their prime environments. It beats the BR in its environment, it has beaten the AR, and even the CC for -Yoink-'s sake. It isn’t its damage either. It’s the fire rate. Reduce the fire rate to to be that of the BR’s burst-rate, or make it slightly less than that. That way it actually will boil down too a situational thing. The DMR’s reduced effectiveness in CQC will make it less desirable on maps like Haven, or Adrift.
