Ok by now it should be no surprise to anyone that the DMR is the most used weapon in the game. In every shooter game I have played the player base always migrates to using the most easy to use and overpowered weapon. It really puts multiplayer into noob mode. here is why:
DMR has the most bullet magnetism of any loadout weapon.
There is a video floating around here that shows just how bad it really is. The magnetism is so high that it actualy extends slightly outside the edge of the aiming reticle you see on the screen. This is why people can spam this weapon so effectively and get kills because it requires almost no skill to aim. What was the logic in having a gun that can hit players when the center of the cross hairs does not even have to be aimed at the enemy player. While all weapons have magnetism to a certain degree none of them come close to what this gun has. Also the magnetism on this gun kicks in at longer ranges than all other load out weapons making it easier to get kills with less skill.
DMR is hitscan.
This means that if your aiming reticle is red then you are guarranteed to do damage to the enemy and not only that but the damage is instant and requires no leading of shots to hit a moving target. This weapon has a slight bloom effect but it does not even matter since the bullet magnetism and hitscan mean that you will awlays hit the target as long as the reticle is touching the enemy player in some way. Also since the weapon is hitscan it is possible to hit enemies around corners as long as the aiming reticle is red.
DMR induces the most flinch of all load out weapons.
So for some reason this long range gun gets even more over powered by inducing the most flinch effect of all load out weapons. It really dumbs things down when the enemy can’t even scope in on a DMR user because of all the flinch it causes. Also the DMR itself does not suffer much flinch effect making it easier to aim while under fire.
DMR has the second fastest kill time of all precision load out weapons.
The only gun that beats it is a scoped in light rifle but good luck killing a DMR user with it since the light rifle suffers horrendous flinch from the DMR. So the longest range load out gun in the game gets even more powerful by having a very good kill time and the most range of any gun to do it with.
DMR has the most zoom of all load out weapons.
It has a 3x zoom vs. 2x zoom for all other load out guns. Now I wouldn’t have a problem with this if the DMR was properly balanced. Since it is not balanced this extra zoom just magnifies its other problems. It is also killing big team battle. Big team has been reduced to everyone running around the edges of the map hiding behind cover because if you move into the open you get killed by the other team from across the map using DMR’s. Map movement has been severly reduced simply by unbalanced nature of this gun. I want the DMR to keep its 3x zoom if it can be properly balanced.
DMR dominates at long and medium range, and is too good at short range.
The DMR owns long range and medium range hands down. It does loose some of its effectiveness at very close range where an AR user may have a chance at beating it. However the DMR is still too good at close range and this needs to change.
Here is a few ideas on how to fix the DMR:
Shrink its bullet magnetism down to only the innermost cross hairs of the aiming reticle instead of the entire reticle.
Remove hitscan. This may be difficult to do as I bet it is somehow encoded into how this gun works. The other precision load out weapons do not get hitscan so the DMR should not get it either.
Reduce its flinch effect on other players. It already has the most accuracy at all ranges. There is no reason to punish other players further by making it harder for them to even shoot back at a DMR user.
Increase kill time. There are a couple of ways of doing this. First the rate of fire can be reduced OR damage per shot can be reduced. I believe overall kill time for the DMR should be the SLOWEST of all precision load out guns because it already has the most range and accuracy. This will also reduce its effectiveness in CQC allowing the other weapons to actualy do their job and not loose to a long range gun in CQC. This will still make the DMR the go to gun for long range combat and will allow some map movement and not punish players as badly for leaving cover.
Slightly reduce damage to vehicles. This may be more of a problem with the vehicles themselves since they are very weak right now. Any vehicle gets pummeled by DMR users from across the map which makes using any vehicle quite frustrating.
