Why is the DMR in Halo 4 when it was supposed to have been destroyed prior to CE?
It wasn’t destroyed. The DMR became the default marksman rifle of the ARMY division of the UNSC after the creation of the Battle Rifle, which became the primary NAVY division marksman rifle.
^What he said. The UNSC Marine Corps did away with the DMR. But the question still remains. Why is it in Halo 4 if the Marines did away with it? Halo 4’s friendly AIs are Marines. Hopefully 343 will do away with the DMR in Halo 5.

Like Kovul said, the DMR became the default marksman rifle of the ARMY division of the UNSC after the creation of the Battle Rifle. Personally, I love the DMR, b/c of its single shot. I rather take that over the BR.

Lost Technology.
-Bungie
Both Dmr as Halo4 are out of chronological order and by continuing to Reach 343 managed to do what many feared!
Because Bungie haven’t thought about making it till Reach?
Anyway, I like the DMR and grew fond of it in Reach but it’s just a little TO good in Halo 4. If they increased the bloom and/or nerf the aim assist, I’m sure it could be more balanced.

The DMR will be having its red reticule range reduced on June 3rd while weapons like the Battle Rifle & Carbine will be getting buffed (4SK for the former, 7SK for the latter) so the DMR doesn’t dominate at close to medium range anymore.
I think they should just remove the DMR once, and for all.
It needs to be tortured, flayed, and then hung by it’s entrails. There is no room for over powered mini-snipers in this game and obviously the DMR is 343’s ‘master piece’ and they will continue to refuse to touch it.
The reason it is in Halo 4 was because of it’s adaption into post-war UNSC era, not because it was highly popular in Reach.

Pretty much this. Which is ironic, since the dmr was never their own original idea, it was bungie’s. So trying to make it “their own” is already a lost cause, save for redesigning how it looks/works.
The biggest problem I have with it is its long range. Longer range should be for snipers only, and I know that they are reducing its RRR, but for halo 5 I really think they should give it as well as the lightrifle x2 scopes, or give the BR and CC x3 scopes. Preferably the former as the later would make full autos completely redundant. (as of June 3rd, autos will also receive a buff…all that trouble just to accommodate one weapon)

The “canon” reason it is in is because the Army decided to be different and keep using it when all the other branches of the UNSC adapted to the supposedly superior BR. The real reason it is in is because otherwise reach fans would whine about their favorite gun being left out.
According to bungie the dmr never should have come back, as they explained that it was destroyed with reach. But because 343i received all of the rights to halo, they basically changed canon to push their own agenda for bringing it back in an effort to attract the newer fans who jumped on the halo bandwagon with reach.
The DMR still exists, it just shouldn’t be in halo 4
I like the DMR, it’s a long range weapon yes, but a “sniper” is truly made for longer distances (x5 and x10) plus I like the single shot over a 3 shot spread anyway.

No, the DMR has a place. We just haven’t found it yet. You can’t just rip out a precision weapon of choice like that. Speaking of which the Covenant Needle Rifle also needs to make a return for Halo 5. Having all the rifles in one game will be epic and add to the variety.

The Focus Rifle from reach begs to differ. (x3.5 and x9.5 scope, only a .5 difference in magnification from the dmr on the first scope).
I dont mind the dmr as a weapon at all, and more variety is always good, but it would be nice if its scope was reduced to x2 to match all the other rifles.(I know it wont happen anytime soon, but one can dream)
