Anybody who has played Halo Reach and own the DLC for the game know that the appearance of DLC is very low. People counter other players complaints by stating “If you want DLC you should play with friends” or “Play the Anniversary playlists”. These are not true solutions. Many players like myself own the DLC but do not have friends that play Reach or even own the DLC.
I believe i have found out why DLC shows up for some and not so often for others. Skill, or at least the small amount of TruSkill that exisits in Reach. Players that hold a decent amount of skill like myself have a very low chance of seeing DLC in the lineup, let alone getting it voted in.
Skill makes it harder for people like myself to find maps, because people at my skill level are stingy and won’t purchase maps.
DLC needs to have its own playlists or become required. I propose that at least 80% of the Evolved Hopper be DLC required and all of the Standard playlists require the Noble Map Pack.
People may say: HEY! I DONT WANT TO BUY DLC TO PLAY REACH!
My Response: The Noble Map Pack should become Free for all Halo players, Defiant recieve a price drop to 400 or 600 MSP, and Anniversary a price drop to either 800 or 1000 MSP.
If possible a Demo version of Each Map Pack be created to promote the map packs (Hang em’ High for Anniversary, and Highlands for Defiant)
Halo 4 is coming out very soon, and i do not want to see Reach die completely. Making a Map Pack free will promote the longevity of the game and give players a fresh experience.

I had that same question. I believe some games have Free content that includes achievements.

Small rule that Microsoft has sadly, the games that have free content w/ achievements was released before this silly rule was in place

Do you know where i could find proof of this rule? Not that i don’t believe you i just want affirmation that this is the truth.

You could go asking around, it has actually never been stated.
The fact that I’ve never seen a DLC go free that had achievements linked to it all but supports it.
Little Moa, I normally count everything you typically say as gospel, I have to differ on this one.
I’m pretty sure Portal 2 had free DLC with attached achievements.

1. Make all map packs free 2. Require all map packs in all playlists 3. Add one of those start-up messages to Reach, making sure people know about this 4. For the image on the message, use a banner that says “ALL MAPS ARE NOW FREE” 5. ??? 6. PROFIT APPEASE THOSE FROM WHOM YOU HAVE ALREADY PROFITED
DLC should be required for most playlists at this point. The game has been out for two years, and there are countless other shooters to play. If you still enjoy playing Reach online, then you should have to buy the packs to play in the majority of the playlists. It’s continued support and its a two way street.
All online games say “game experience may change with online play.” This well enough incorporates the loss of playlists. Paid DLC owners lost their DLC only playlist. I’m not saying a DLC playlist is what is needed, as its separates the community and makes it even harder to find DLC maps in normal playlists.
Hopefully when we get the final Halo Reach playlist update we will see DLC required in most playlists. It sucks that the maps dont get an overall price drop / become free. But we live in a paid DLC game world now. Halo 2 was nice to get all the maps for free, but we wont be seeing that ever again.
The only solution that makes sense is to require DLC on most playlists. I’m not sure why 343 hasn’t done this yet.

Reach matchmaking is doomed anyways when Halo4 comes out anyways, like with all games that use matchmaking and have sequels. Might as well do it now while the people who have the maps have the chance to play it.
Matchmaking is a neat idea for highly competitive gaming, but its designed around a network setup that kills the game 100% when the population becomes low, rather than it just taking time to get a game going.
I’d rather wait a little longer in matchmaking and actually have access to the other half of multiplayer I paid for.
