The Didact and the Gravemind

Halo 4 showed us that the Didact has a past in dealing with the flood. What it didn’t show us, is that the Didact had a significant past dealing with the Gravemind.

Here’s a bit of background info from the Forerunner Trilogy:
From what I remember, the Didact had two major interactions with the Gravemind. As the Didact’s opinions of the Forerunners began to sway, the Librarian claimed that it was the madness setting in from his encounters with the Gravemind. But the question is: Was she right?

Let’s take a look at the Didact’s use of the composer:
At the end of the Forerunner-Flood war, the Didact used the composer to turn Prometheans and humans into machines that could not be infected by the flood. Unfortunately, all beings composed would slowly lose their minds. This would essentially leave the Didact with a mindless, obedient army at his command.

Sound familiar? Does the flood not do the same thing as the Didact did with the composer? Or as I should be stating it: Was the Didact not doing the same thing as the flood?

After the Didact’s madness was incited by the Gravemind, the Didact essentially started to became a Gravemind himself. He set out to consume life and convert it into a mindless army.

I find this to be very interesting, as it may have a huge role to play in the story of future Halo games. Perhaps with the Return of the Flood and the Didact, The Didact will not see the Flood as an enemy, but as more of a rival. After all, it looks as though the Didact and the Gravemind now have the same goals.

So what do you guys think? Will all of this have a role to play in the next Halo? Or am I just pulling this out of my rear?

Interesting. This is a very sound theory and you make some valid points. Definitely something to think about.

Not so much a theory as it is the truth. The only real issue would be that the Didact wanted to Compose any sentient species that ever threatened Forerunner supremacy rather than just Compose life in general, but that is a mere technicality.

Hm. Wasn’t really thinking about the Forerunner Supremacy thing. But then again, When Mendicant Bias was turned against the Forerunners, he truly believed that he was doing it because the Flood was the next stage in the evolution of life. But these thoughts were planted in him by the Gravemind. So perhaps the Didact’s motive, ensuring Forerunner Supremacy, is the work of the Gravemind as well.

But that’s probably just me overanalyzing all of this.
