So, maybe I’m the only one on here who thinks this, or maybe I’m blinded by hoping the theory I’ve concocted about him. It’s taken me awhile to post this because I know how unrelenting much of the community can be to theories that don’t line up with what’s been accepted as truth, so I’m willing to get flamed over this.
Am I the only one who after reading the first two books in the Forerunner saga, saw the Didact wanting to atone for what he had done to the humans? I’m hoping that “the ancient evil” isn’t the Didact, but really is the Precursors. It just seems all too convenient to have the Didact as the “ancient evil”. IF he is the “ancient evil” how could that be carried on for 3 games, and how much bigger could the universe get? With him as an ally and someone willing to help make sure the galaxy doesn’t repeat the past, the universe could continue to grow. That’s just my hope
Heck while I’m at it and I know I’m going to get slammed for this, I might as well give you guys my ultimate feel good happy ending. The Didact is able to end the fighting with the Sangheili. All evil is cleared from the universe. The Librarian performed a mutation with the female warrior servant who was brought to the Ark by BS Didact, then put her into a Cryptum to be found by BS Didact so they can finally live out their lives together.(Mushy, I know) Cortana is somehow able to take human form and her and Chief are also able to live out their lives together in a peaceful universe; where the Arbiter comes over and visits with his wife and children who refer to Chief as “Uncle John”. That’s my ultimate feel good ending. I’m a hopeless romantic, I know.
Let the flaming commence!
I can’t believe I’m posting this!!!
Your theory is far from unique.
Except that ending, i would never have thought of that. Nobody has ever thought of that.
I have a question. I’ve read cryptum. I’m about a hundred pages from being done with primordial. And someone in the halo 4 topic said something along the lines of which didact we will encounter. But I thought the first didact died/or was killed and his imprint was passed onto Bornstellar?

According to what we know about the third book in the forerunner saga, the original didact(known as the ur-didact) is still alive. The master builder abandoned him in a flood infested section of the galaxy.
The Ur-Didact doesn’t seem forgiving at all. And the “Ancient Evil” doesn’t need to be continued for 2 more games. The Ancient Evil is only the threat for the first game I believe.
Very few of the regular Halo Universe forum goers seems to believe the Didact is the true Ancient Evil. While he will be an antagonist for Halo 4 (that much is undeniable), I doubt he will be going forward. If he were, he must have been corrupted, quite severely, by whatever the true “Ancient Evil” is.
So OP, at least for the first part of your theory, you are not alone. Don’t know about the second half.
> The Ur-Didact doesn’t seem forgiving at all.
The Didact was very forgiving. He seemed content that humans were a threat when we were in a war yes, but he felt disgrace when he found out that we were fighting the Flood at the same time. In fact he held great admiration for the humans seeing how they were holding their own against not only them but the Flood as well.

The tagline is “An Ancient Evil Awakens”. If they is no-one to fight, what is the point of the next two games?
Well after going through Crytum again, I kinda get a feeling that something along the lines of this occurs.
In Crytum, we have the one Halo ring go missing, along with the ‘captive’. The captive manages to spend considerable time with Mendicant Bias, who comes back to the forerunner empire and betrays them. This is how the book ended.
Based on the description of Silentium on Amazon, we learn that the Ur-Didact, the one who performed the Brevet Mutation on Bornstellar, was not killed, but abandoned in a flood infected system. I get a feeling that he was put into a similar situation as Mendicant, spending considerable time and being influenced by an outside source. This is what could cause his change. Just speculation, but there is so much that can still happen with this story.
