I took advantage of the free trial offer to download the Crimson map pack today, and after spending time in all three maps in Forge concluded they should have named it the Depressing map pack. I’ve never seen such a set of dark, dreary, depressing maps. If I recall correctly there was no grass or sun on any of them.
I can’t say anything about how they play because just the look made me not want to play them. The first time one of them won the vote in BTS I jumped to Xbox Home and deleted them. Are there just not very many of us who want to play within a brighter, more upbeat sandbox?
Boy, do I miss Firefight on Installation 04. That’s a beautiful map.
Harvest has alot of grass and sunshine. Hell if you look out the one side of the made you can see a bunch of cool farms. Wreckage has a warm glow to it, but no sun. I kinda think you didn’t really look that hard.
I strangely agree I played them at first but after a few times I was in a bad mood and just stopped playing. And I really don’t want to play them again. Just have a bad vibe when im in them especially harvest
I was expecting them to be that way actually.
After playing them though, I have been impressed and do not find them too drap and uncomfortable to play on.
Except for Wreckage.
Wreckage seemed surprisingly not-dreary to me. I expected it to be a drab, dull ruin, and the screenshots in the Bulletin certainly didn’t indicate anything to the contrary. But in actuality,…
I caught a lucky camera angle during a Matchmaking game, as I was driving around on a Ghost. I just happened to be boosting toward a gap between two structures, and the way the skybox lighting was set up made for a very bright, vibrant, bloomy effect. It was a perfect example of a good sci-fi desert scene, and it evoked memories of the ones I’ve seen before – Planet of the Apes, Pitch Black, and especially Red Faction: Guerrilla’s Badlands… Incredible feeling, that.

The problem is that the lighting is blinding if you look in that direction. You can only see peoples’ outlines if they are in the right spot. If they tone it down, it would improve it a lot.
On another note, does anyone know if the achievements will get relocked if you already accomplished them with the map pack once they become unavailable on the 18th?
