before everyone just played with DMR, now its just battle rifle. every gametype is battle rifle and grenade gameplay. I RARELY see the storm, light rifle, suppressor, needler and a couple others.
makes for pretty dull gameplay. im barely hanging onto halo these days but I sure miss duel wielding and seeing a good spread of weapon use and colourful explosions.
It has been like this since everyone figured out the most powerful gun
People only used a variety of guns when the game launched because people wanted to try it all out and see which combos would work best, 9 months later and here we are - everyone has found their perfect combo.
Although, I have to say - I do still see the LightRifle, Storm Rifle and Assault Rifle being used commonly (I’ve actually got a LightRifle loadout for BTB).
I hope that 343 bring in playlist that has this i mean the halo global championship had game mods like rife slayer,BR slayer…ect so they can put in other playlsits. Lets just hope the next halo is like the classic days.
Seeing that I’ve already finished the mastery with the BR, I’ve moved away to using carbine other weapons. It’s still pretty funny when I watch people rage and cry about the carbine being too OP when they die while using BR.
I’ve also managed to convert a couple of players from using solely BRs to using carbines.
Im just working through all the masteries. Master the AR, BR, DMR and Magnum, so far, along with the shotgun, sniper rifle and grav hammer. Currently grinding CC kills.
I dunno, I find a wide variety of guns used these days. The June update really brought guns like the carbine, automatics and light rifle to prominence. I wouldn’t disagree BR is most used, but I don’t think it’s that far ahead of the rest of the pack. I can pick up any of the ranged rifles and pistols on any given battlefield. One weapon I barely see used: suppressor.
Hey now, before weapon tuning came out I used the BR. So just because it’s been changed doesn’t mean I didn’t use it before. I used to be the only player in lobbies with a BR. Now everyone uses it.
I’ll pick up whatever I see if I run out of ammo and do fine with it. Some matches I will start with a carbine for kicks and still do great.
There have always been weapons in Halo that got precious little play. The only difference now is that you can spawn with the precision weapons you wanted.
In Halo Reach, the needle rifle didn’t get hardly any play in vanilla, but it was an upgrade over the pistol if you couldn’t get a dmr.
Same applies for the carbine in earlier incarnations. Spiker, plasma rifle, and needler were all underutilized.
Map spawns used to necessitate sub optimal weapon choice, but now loadouts mean you only need your ideal weapon.
like I said, the bummer is that everyone just happened to settle with the strongest gun as opposed to using any other weapon. that common choice makes for STALE gameplay. I do bounce playlists frequently just to get that diversity but the battle rifle/grenade combo is consistent in lots of playlists.
so stale gameplay, there isn’t a solution and I don’t expect one. Just an observation of this game we all play,ha.
The problem, at least compared to previous Halos, is custom loadouts. People spawn with the only weapons they’ll ever need (with the exception of power weapons), so there’s a whole slew of mid tier weapons that go unused.
In previous Halos weapons spawned on the map. So people would grab different weapons that were upgrades to their spawn weapon, but may not have been their ideal weapon. And then they would go around the map trading out for whatever the best thing they could find was.
This was why I always found Call of Duty so boring. Everyone only uses two weapons.
I completely agree with the original poster. I use other loadouts a lot, but only because the game is easy enough without a ranking system that I can get away with it.
Suppressor used to be my fav weapon for 4v4. Now it’s useless. Even in cqc precission rifles destroy it with melee > headshot.
I was against re-tuning of all weapons because of overpowered DMR (nerfing DMR back then would simply fix most balancing issues), because BR to AR to Suppressor was much better balanced before. Now 343i must seriously re-tune weapons again and again. As they nerfed automatic rifle’s aim assist, they should fix their reticles as well, as precise aming with AR or SR is impossible right now.
When was that? I don’t remember a Halo game where any players used all the weapons.
There is a reason some weapons are more common than others: they’re more useful and/or better than others. The only two reasons players deviate from this are (1) boredom or (2) they don’t know the game very well.
As you get into the higher ranks of matchmaking, you will see players use weapons like the Needler and Suppressor less and weapons like the Battle Rifle and Sniper Rifle more. This is because better players know which weapons are better or more useful and they won’t waste time and lives with inflexible or lesser weapons. Skilled players are more interested in winning matches than in using other weapons just because they exist.
Since the June update, I’ve seen much more variety in the weapons being used on the battlefield. The BR is still the go-to weapon for most, but now that other weapons stand a decent chance against it, I’ve seen much more Carbine and automatic use. I even see the Light Rifle being used in Big Team matches!
I dont care if everyone uses the BR (which is technically not true)…I just want it to be balanced at mid range with the LR, DMR and CC (Or at least the CC)
> I just want it to be balanced at mid range with the LR, DMR and CC (Or at least the CC)
Wouldn’t that defeat the purpose of having unique weapons? As I see it, BR is the go-to mid range weapon (Carbine comes in second) and the DMR is the go-to long range weapon. The LR does a little bit of both but not as well as the others.
For what it’s worth, LR is my scoped rifle of choice.
