Upon viewing the teaser, everybody concludes Chief is holding onto Cortana’s data chip, just in case. But…how? If you remember on the last level of Halo 4, the terminal Cortana (along with her data chip) was in explodes with a considerable amount of force. I’ve seen counter arguments that Master Chief never puts the data chip in the terminal, yet in every single instance where Cortana has interacted with a system, her data chip was inserted. Also, scale wise, the one in the teaser is much larger than the data chip seen in Halo 4. Comparison can be seen here .
Perhaps he had kept an early version of Cortana’s chip, say the one he used while wearing Mark V? It was clearly as big as the one shown in this teaser.

That’s what I was thinking. Something to hold onto, to let him know what he’s now fighting for. Perhaps he took another chip in case he did find Cortana again.
Its possible he pulled it out while the camera was moved to show the didact better. Perhaps he did it before her processes were done, thus the “Cortana!” yell.
Sorry for the necro bump here but I was thinking about this topic and didn’t want to add a new thread since this one already exists.
What if Chief has recovered the digital remnants of Cortana, in terms of memory, speech-patterns, appearance, values, etc. (On the old drive or a new one).
Could he then revive her with the help of Halsey, and some Composer-inspired technology? Would she be the same when she came back? Damaged? Strengthened?
The teasers are never in the game. Its a place holder for the real fun to come. All of these theories are nothing but a waste of time. We all know that they never happen but we always seem to want to guess what the game is about through them.

How about the obvious option that since Chief is a Human being with emotions, that he’s carrying around just a regular data chip to remind him of what Cortana did for him?
Maybe chief doesn’t know if he can survive or nobso he has it so people would know his identity incase he doesn’t make it. Also why is it on a chain like a dog tag rather than in his helmet. Am I the only one who found that strange?
Sigh People! The teaser trailer is NOTHING to go by…i repeat N-O-T-H-I-N-G to go by. It is a simple teaser. Cortana’s chip was destroyed, if you cannot see that in the campaign, then i advise you to go get glasses. The only purpose that the data chip serves in the trailer, is to remind you of her sacrifice and that Chief is now alone. Also, to make sure you are up to date with the story, hence the reason why its empty. I can’t believe this still has to be explained to some people…-.-
