I love Halo 4’s multiplayer, I really do-in matchmaking. But Customs, the thing that made Reach so fun above anything else, has become so limited.
In Reach, Infection was the base of most (and the best) customs. Teacher, Assassin’s Creed, and other non-zombie-related themes were built using the ability to give the zombies different colours and more importantly different weapons. Now, in Halo 4, Infection has been replaced with Flood, and the zombies HAVE to be zombies and they can’t use any weapons other than the claw.
Forge has a number of issues. With the small maps and low budget, you can’t create over-the-top maps like in Reach.
This part is probably the biggest problem, not just for minigames. THERE ARE NO WEAPON SPAWNS! YOU CAN’T PUT DOWN A WEAPON IN FORGE MODE AND HAVE IT APPEAR IN THE GAME! IT HAS TO BE ORDNANCE DROPS! WITH GIANT WAYPOINTS OVER ALL THE WEAPONS! IT TELLS YOU EXACTLY WHERE ALL THE WEAPONS ARE! In the other Halos, various weapons were scattered around the map and you had to know where they were. Now, THEY ALL HAVE GIANT WAYPOINTS SAYING WHERE THEY ARE AND WHAT WEAPON IT IS! HOLY CRAP, WHY?! WHY DO THEY EVEN LET US USE OUR BUDGET ON WEAPONS WHEN WE CAN’T EVEN USE THE WEAPONS IN-GAME? WHAT IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A BIG ARMORY IN A MILITARY ABSE OR SOMETHING, YOU’LL GO INTO THE ROOM AND SEE BLUE RECTANGLES EVERYWHERE AND THEY’LL ALWAYS BE ON YOUR SCREEN NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE ON THE MAP!
There is just so much wrong with the customs. It’s as if 343 has totally forgotten that anybody wants to make anything other than standard 4v4 maps. I love Halo 4, but this is a COLOSSAL step down for community input! I want my customs back!
