I think the customization limitations are extremely damaging if left as they are now. The armor attachments can’t be colored and some cosmetics are only available in armor kits, locking us out of customization options entirely. These were all available separately in Reach. It’s actually crazy how limited customization actually is due to this.
The armor coating system is a complete failure in this regard. It’s entirely built around how easy it is to monetize more “options”. How did you guys not see how awful this would end up? Armor coatings should be extravagant colorations that are extremely unique, not dark steel on dark steel or blue/orange. You absolutely must unlock the basic colors as options to change it the way we want. Every game predating this one gave us the ability to customize our colors, starting in Halo 1 and expanding upon that in later games. Not going backwards because of clear corporate greed. It’s actually so disheartening looking at these options and seeing how little there is to actually change.
Now onto the Armor Cores. You guys decided to separate so many more options into different cores. I would understand this if they were exotic armors like the samurai set that is going to release in the coming weeks. But Mark V and Mark VII have no business being separated from their armor options. I unlocked a visor color on the Mark VII but I strictly use Mark V. What is the purpose of locking visor colors behind cores? It’s color. Pieces of armor are slightly more understandable, but with that said, it’s a huge wasted opportunity.
It’s clear you guys wanted to give players satisfying choice, but there are so many weird limitations placed on them it just feels like a complete mess. I really implore you guys to rethink the current armor customization system before it’s too late and you can’t go back, because the potential is absolutely there. The arbitrary limitations placed on us make no sense and suck the creativity out of the process.
