…makes me very, very nervous. I understand that 343i is going to continue to tweak server stuff, but as of now, the hit detection of Halo 1 - 3 is absolutely abysmal. The last patch seems to have a least brought Halo 1 up in line with 2 and 3, but they all have a long way to go before I would consider the hit detection acceptable. I really hope this is just because every game I play is running P2P (since I have never seen the “connecting to dedicated server” box that is supposed to come up).
Just to throw out some examples to see if you guys experience the same thing:
Bullets in Halo 1 and Halo 3 bloodshot at least half the time at any distance other than very close range (even if they are led properly; I can see the bullet impact but the enemy’s shields do not flicker so I know they’re not registering).
Bullets in Halo 2 register fairly well up to medium range, but past that, they seemingly disappear completely. Maybe 5% of my BR bullets actually cause a shield flicker and the rest sponge, and both snipers literally stop working, often even when someone is standing still.
Halo 2A and Halo 4, though not perfect, are totally acceptable in my opinion (though sometimes I swear my 4 shot fails to kill in H2A but I can live with that).
Do you guys have this happen? I really hope this is something on 343i’s radar but I understand that getting matchmaking stable is a clear priority right now. I just don’t want this to be swept under the rug because it is essentially game-breaking on large BTB maps. My biggest fear is that this is a netcode issue with these games that is not fixable regardless of how good the connection is on dedicated servers.
