The way this current meta has settled has left a bad taste in my mouth for ones. My largest issue is how long some games will go because of shield generators and Banished. It has become unplayable (to me) because of how long some of these matches go. The problem is it is a cheap mechanic that takes a lot of time and prep to beat. I don’t mind the occasional long game but when half of them against Banished last an hour there is no incentive for me to play anymore. The other problem is these games become stagnant. This isn’t even going into how unfair the shield generators become later when you are UNSC. I had a 90 minute long game and was ahead most of it but I could never leave my base because he would just backdoor my base and it just takes too long to kill a Banished base. I can’t think of a workaround unless you take early dominance but with Choppers that is pretty hard.
Not to come off as too biased but at least with the Kinsano Meta the game was over fast and you could get to your next game. Now when I play against good Banished it seems a war of attrition that I will eventually lose. I understand that balancing takes time but the current Meta is cheesy and not fun to play because of the length games can last (for no good reason IMO).
Either way, it is unfortunate that this meta came to light during the longest period without an update that 343 has done. Think of this as more of a warning. When 343 stops patching the game (which in my opinion would be as soon as they finish with the content updates unless by some miracle HW2 takes off on Steam) they need to make sure that the Meta doesn’t trend towards games over 30 minutes on that final patch day.

I totally agree. It’s one of those “if you can’t beat them, join them” strategies and it just causes games to last way longer than they should. Decisive wins become hours long matches for the UNSC really quickly.

It really sucks because UNSC lack the punching power late to actually deal with it. Full vultures can y a 3-4 shield base and only 1 phoenix missile will actually touch the base. At this point you could 40 grunt and win the game or god forbid you double scarab.
Holy cow, 30+ minutes for a 1v1 is way too long and there shouldn’t even be 1v1 games that long. The longest 1v1 I had was a good 20 minutes and close to an hour for a 3v3.
It is very unfortunate that more players are picking up on this. I bet the leaderboard will be severely affected until the patch comes out. It can’t get here soon enough!

Couldnt agree more. And as said one of the most frustrating is while still fighting a base the shield goes up.

Nor should it cover units inside the shield.
Shield stacking is asinine.

Why? Because now, if you don’t stack shields as banished vs banished you are instantly at a disadvantage.

i won the game but only got like 5 points
shield stacking is indeed broken for atriox sense they only cost 301 (fortifications level 2 ) and after u kill one they can build another
then it will be a endless loop if you dont have an max pop army or decent building killers
as a banished main i want unsc to be a challenge again and not an easy target for an army of choppers
aside from shield staking scout rushing still being a thing and Johnson and forge being trash
this game is almost perfect in my eyes

Oh! Yeah, I’ll just do that! Dudoii! Why didn’t I think of that?
It doesn’t change the fact that the shields shouldn’t recharge while the base is still taking damage. Let’s not forget that you can have multiple shield generators in addition to a cloaking generator, or an army that is turtling underneath the shield hindering you.

Same thing happened to me last night. I was in a game that took forever (I was cutter he was shipmaster). After shutting down my rush (he got a shield on his main base EARLY), we ended up splitting the map. I methodically took down each of his bases 1 by 1, and as Cutter I literally had to use ALL of my leader powers (CAS, Archer Missiles, and all of the unit drops) to take down his bases (in addition to my full pop unit compositions).
This is all while dealing with him constantly displacing my troops and teleporting Scarabs to my base. I eventually one, but that is largely because he chose to go 1 shield, 1 invisibility and 2 turrets. Had he gone 3 Shields plus invisibility (and his protected units like he had), I would not have been able to break the shields.
It was satisfying AF though, as he was talking trash over pm and I still won.
I don’t think the shield generators themselves are that bad and I honestly don’t mind the stacking, what I do mind is the cloaking plus the ability to have units hide under the shield and under the cloak… The unsc are so underpowered unit wise and base wise that it has gotten ridiculous!!! Good hell give unsc cloaking and then give banished shields or vise versa, giving them both to the banished is just annoying
The sides aren’t balanced at all.
My solution is get rid of cloaking!!! And remove the ability to hide units under the shields!!! Stacking was fine in Halo Wars 1 because it didn’t help the turrets and it didn’t help the units. Right now all I can do as a unsc main is try and get a condor out at 8-9 minutes and fly over to the banished base and blow the crap out of it and hope they don’t have their cloak generator up already and at the same time pray my teammates don’t quit at the mere sight of a chopper:(
