I’m old as -Yoink- to be smashing Halo, so I remember a time when the Recon helmet launched on Halo 3 and people lost their minds. Wigs were splitting left, right, and centre.
Nowadays Recon is just a “rare” helmet - even the new one/old one, drops straight in a at rare which means that a waster like me who has slugged his way to most of the helmets in the year since I’ve had the game, will be half-expecting it on my next Gold Req drop.*
Point/question is: is this a deliberate attempt to stave off what happened last time? Is it marked only “rare” to ensure that people don’t go nuts over it again and we all end up running around tooled up in Recon? Is it reverse psych, to make sure that we all angle for something a little tastier on the rarity chart?
Or just 343 just not fancy it?

Recon [GEN1] and the rest of the classic helmets are exclusive to the pack, so I doubt you’ll be getting it out of your next Gold. Way I see it, I think it might be to make it easier for players to obtain if it is ever added to the normal REQ pool.

See I dunno. I used to love Recon. Always wore it. Thought it was the -Yoink!-. Then I got here and I was like, wait, there are 200 rarer helmets??

Yes and no. It is true that it was wanted because of the way you had to get it. 2. It looks fine. not the best, but pretty good.

My man, you don’t use that phrase? It was the -Yoink!-? It was the -Yoink-? It was the lick? The boomblast? The bees knees?
Sweet lyric though, right?
Point being, I love the look of the Recon helmet. Reason I go with Deadeye is I’m a fanboy and the description of the helmet plucks my heart stings.
IMO they should all be legendary, scattering them throughout the rest makes them frustratingly hard to find. At least with legendary you know where to find them. This wouldn’t be the case if you could favourite pieces of armour, like bookmarking a page. Easy to find, easy to equip.

I actually think that Recon is really really cool-looking. But I guess you’re right, some people want it due to its rarity, not its looks. I mean, I find Achilles to be one of the worst-looking armours in the game, yet it’s insanely sought after. Though, to be fair, I don’t want Achilles whatsoever.

I think Recon Gen1 looks marvelous and I still have the “status symbol” for Halo 3 Recon in my achievements. So I am content just wearing Recon Gen1 in Halo 5 since it has meaning to me personally.
