You can’t calculate it from the team CSR - because you don’t know the difference between each person’s MMR and their CSR.
And then you have various weightings applied - eg. for squads.
Talking about critical thinking. You are cherry picking the % chance of which team should have won to “prove” your point - yet that particular stat is likely derived from the MMR numbers which you now say are complete nonsense.
Just not to you.
Every player on the team has their expected contribution. And that is proportional to their skill level. That is literally how any team sport works.
If that Gold player manages to die less than expected then they have contributed. They can go negative and actually be the difference that won you the game. And I imagine that whichever side gets more out of their lower ranked players is the side that wins more times than often.
What is even more worrying is that you don’t see that an Onyx player can under perform by going less positive than expected. And it is this mindset that is probably costing you wins and stopping you from ranking up.
You’d think us Diamonds would stick together, but apparently not.
Your insistence that the gold player contributes is just silly. And I’m no diamond
The onyx player is going to underperform because THE GOLD PLAYER IS DEAD WEIGHT WHY DON’T YOU UNDERSTAND THIS WHY IS THIS DIFFICULT WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT
I definitely feel like this with the solo/duo search for ranked. When it comes to open however I feel like no matter what, over time I continue to gain CSR. I got pretty close to Onyx 1800 this season.
I really do not play unless with friends who have mics and can communicate with me. If no mics, no ranked matchmaking. Simple as that for me.
You can mitigate it by staying away from Solo and playing crossplay. It’s a more accurate representation of your actual rank because it’s harder for the system to screw you over if you get parties on your team.
@M1STA_WU1FY after reading how close you got to onyx I feel like this tweet could be pretty relevant (even though it was about someone else):

You probably were playing better then onyx on many occasions but didn’t quite get your CSR to 1500.
right, because when the system is forcing bad teammates on you against stacked squads, you can’t possibly play as well as you normally would in a fair match.
Thank you. I’ve been looking at a lot of similar graphics that Josh used to produce for players on the old Waypoint.
It’s interesting how much the individual performance can vary.
There was even one post where Josh said that a Platinum player performs at Onyx level in about 1 in 20 games!
But you can clearly see the CSR start at zero (placement) and then jump to 3 standard deviations below the mean of the MMR. They eventually meet after about 30 games. Then there is a bit of form and the MMR goes above the CSR. I’m assuming a lot of this is playing well in a losing side because the CSR drops off despite the form and MMR trending up.
They eventually come back together around 50 games. As predicted by TrueSkill2.
Then, for whatever reason, the player drops off in form. You can see their red squiggle dropping off. It’s actually a bit of a switch flip when you view the graphic in two halves.
Interestingly their MMR drops off more than their CSR but they still stay relatively close (about 50 points).
I imagine that their MMR is trying to resist falling with the CSR. We don’t know their wins or losses in relation to performance here. But you can see that the red line (performance) is still trending down and the MMR is starting to sag. Just at the end you can see the CSR going “ok, you’ve had a chance, but I gotta follow my buddy”.
It’s brilliant.
If 343 made graphs like this available to all players - there wouldn’t be anywhere near as much angst as there is now. You would be able to clearly see how your performance relates to MMR and CSR.
Throw in a KPM vs rank graphic and we would all be as happy as pigs in mud.
At some point I’m assuming you are just trolling now.
Just like when you claimed the KPM (which is just a stat of your past performance) is some sort of conspiracy to set unachievable expected kills.
Just like the team MMR’s - which you called nonsense in one post - but happily use them to work out % win rates as absolute proof you are being diddled.
And I think you also, in this or another thread, quoted those very same MMR values as proof that your MMR was 1800 or so.
You tell us that the MMR and CSR are completely different numbers - but here, in this graphic (and all the other ones Josh published) - you can see their symbiotic relationship.
You claim you are Onyx - but Halo Tracker shows quite clearly you are Diamond. You claim to be beating teams of Onyx 1800 - but I can only find the occasional Onyx player in your games - usually around 1500. And sometimes on YOUR side.
You repeatedly claim you are carrying your team - but you won’t look up your expected kills and deaths to show us by how much (if at all).
You claim every winning streak is cut short - yet you literally posted a 14 game winning streak a couple of days ago.
You painstakingly go out of your way to call anything said by Microsoft or 343 an outright lie - with zero proof. Just because it doesn’t fit your narrative.
Mr wulfy I actually believe you and I understand your pain. Vent here anytime. I keep getting banned because I’ve changed my game up to hide more and get fun kills. I think my teamates report me. Its becoming a shame and although doubles has potential, watch it blow up in halos face like crossplay ranking. There is something really weird going on with this game and Im trying to take my own suggestion to adapt and have fun. We’ll see if it’s possible.
“In preparation for Ranked Doubles, we’ll be updating how we determine skill (MMR), which will help us make better matches and improve the accuracy of CSR ranks.”- from AUGUST MATCHMAKING UPDATES
Very curious what they did and hopeful it makes things more transparent.
I know there will be the rare few people that are “genuinely” not boosters that will hate it, but pleased to see they finally cracked down on Diamond and Onyx players teaming up with low levels for easier opponents to pad their stats. As well as “Unranked players an only fireteam with other not-yet-qualified players, and with qualified players up to 899 CSR (Gold 6)” which I feel is still a little too loose especially in Solo/Duo.
I liked how the wrote this because it’s so true “Playing with your friends in a Fireteam is the best way to play Halo, so we generally allow Fireteams with widely different skills to play together. However, there are cases where a Fireteam that contains an extremely high-skilled and much lower skilled player can cause problems for everyone’s enjoyment of Ranked games.”
As for the topic at hand they did include this at the end. " *Please note: Competitive Skill Rank (CSR) is not exactly the same as MatchMaking Rating (MMR), but they are very closely related. "
This would’ve used truskill (halo 5 - win loss only) rather than truskill2 (win loss + extras). Not sure how it would look if using the newer matchmaking algorithm.
I know that a very very good player I know personally who has consistently been in the top 200 or so players in the world rank-wise was placed in mid Platinum yesterday as his starter rank. So my guess is, without having played enough to be placed yet myself, that they have probably made that part stricter so you don’t just start in low-mid Diamond for free
