How would 343 link the covenant to halo 4? As far as i know, at the end of halo 3, the covenant went back to their planet and quit.
as far as the covanat is, the war ended, there are no prophets left ( i don’t know what happened to mercy, could someone tell me?) to command the brutes, so they slowly disbanded,
and the Elites are still good friends with the UNSC, so the most that could be in Halo 4 is forerunner and flood, (unless the UNSC finds a way to contact Chief)

Well the galaxy is pretty big. So information about all 3 high Prophets being killed, and the Covenant war machine getting destroyed at the end of Halo 3. Will not make it to all members of the Covenant. So you can have these small fleets of Covenant that didn’t get the word yet.
You can also of these small remnants of the Covenant that are in charge by different Warlords. Just like the Empire at the end of the Battle of Endor.

Prophets
-Only around 1000 left by the war’s end
-All vanished well up to 2559
Status: Removed from play
Brutes
-Fought the Elites well into 2559
-Turned on each other and also fought a civil war
Status: Active, yet on the verge of collapse
Drones
-Known to be the repair crew on Brute ships
-Most likely stayed with the Brutes and subsequently picked sides to follow in their civil war
Status: Active, but also probably on the verse of collapse
Jackals
-Now act as pirates and merchants to anyone, human or former Covenant.
Status: Active, but unpredictable
As far as the Covenant goes, it’s finsihed.

can you explain what happens in a more simplified version if possible. There’s no way i’ll be getting the book anytime soon and i would if i could, so could you explain?
