did anyone else actually feel a bit of that ‘what the hell is that’ while watching forward unto dawn?? Considering i’ve been fighting them since 2001 you’d think there would be none but they directors, scriptwriters etc did a really good job of making me feel the mystery again.
Also the bit when the ODST’s came down? it just felt much more serious and made the elite look menacing!
I like how the episode captured how deadly the Covenant were and how they showed absolutely no mercy, the part where they blew up the space elevator and the bodies started falling really showed the dark side of Halo which is something the game struggled or didn’t do well to portray. Really excited for next weeks episode, it looks awesome!

It really does make you feel like its all new and that your experiencing first contact with the recruits, and I first thought the Elite with the sword was a Big Daddy.
The ODST dropping did what the director wanted to portray perfectly: Panic.
Think about it, you’re just a regular cadet in some random planet, aware of your own isolation in the galaxy. Suddenly, sirens, obvious panic in the staff, and then the (supposed) best troops out there land in front of you and rush into battle.
The ODST’s are just as cool as the Spartans IMO.
Also that Elite walking towards the camera… Did anybody else feel… cornered? I was like ‘Oh s*** it’s coming for me!’ It did not look very CGI, and the lack of detail made it pretty terrifying.
They used the good old monster movie concept of ‘The less you see of the creature, the scarier it is’. My worst fear was that they would show too much of the Elite and ruin the suspension of disbelief via CGI making them look like a bunch of armoured goobers.
I’ve been really impressed with the series so far. It’s a real lesson in drama, pacing and tasteful use of effects. I just hope it doesn’t blow its wad towards the end.
they look so real and menasing!! but also the sounds of them!! WOW there amazing!! for some reason they remind more of the Halo Wars elites which to me are alot more menesing than halo 3’s and reaches, they looked chunkier and deadly, but the ODST’s as well, with the smoky mist etc was just so cool, couldnt have portreyed it any better!!
The way that the Covenant were introduced in this was incredible - on par with the reveal of The Flood in Halo 1 I’d say. Very moody and dark at times, and the ODSTs dropping in really gave me a sense of “Oh snap, some bad stuff’s going down” For some reason in this it felt like the ODSTs were something that you’d only use in desperate times (probably because of how revered they are by everyone in the series), and that’s an impression I’d never really gotten from Halo before.
I liked the part in the beginning, with Cortana, really shows how rampant she is truly becoming and, if it’s any representation of how 343 is going to handle that same conflict, I expect some truly incredible dialogue and memorable moments for years.
This show is really bringing to life what the books in halo always tried to do. It’s making halo something interesting and cool, even for casual gamers who just happened to watch the show, plus there is a ton of awsome stuff in it for fans. I’m really excited to see how they reveal the chief, since they did such a great job with the covenant.
